Building Resilience Skipper faces a big change Skipper discovers his boat is broken. He is told that it has so many problems that it is no longer safe to sail. Sadly it can not be fixed or mended. How do you think Skipper feels on receiving this news?

Building Resilience Change is a normal part of life Can you think of a big change in your life? Skipper knows from his journey so far that life is full of change. Some changes can be positive and exciting. Other changes can bring disappointment, difficulty and loss. Sometimes change is all these things.
Building Resilience Everything changes at some point As change can be hard, Skipper begins to wonder what the world would be like if there was never any change. Think how you have changed since you were born. Just think if there was no change there would be no butterflies
Building Resilience We all react differently to change Skipper starts to wonder if he should continue on the River of Life given all of its ups and downs. But he does not want to miss out. There is so much he still wants to see, do and discover - new friendships, grand adventures, unforgettable experiences and beautiful places. What do you think I should do?

Building Resilience Some things in life cannot be fixed or mended It’s a rainy day and Skipper does not feel OK. He is feeling down about losing his boat and he is upset that there is nothing he can do about it. Some days are just like this.
Building Resilience Skipper is not alone Skipper’s friends see he is not his usual self and ask him if he is OK? They are concerned about his wellbeing. They take the time to really listen which is often the very best thing someone can do. Together they explore a way to say goodbye to his boat. What ideas do you have to honour your boat?
Building Resilience Get help from your back up team After some time Skipper lets his friends know he is ready to start building a new boat. His Back Up team rally round and gather recycled materials to help. Skipper brings the steering wheel, the sails and the anchor from his old boat. Together they get to work.

Building Resilience Reflect on which has been the most helpful for me? Which has been the most helpful for you? Reflecting on the journey Skipper is glad that he has learnt many ways to help support his mental health and wellbeing. On this occasion he used ‘Keep Connected’ and ‘Talk it Over’ but he also knows all of the tools will be helpful on his continuing journey along the River of Life.

Building Resilience It is as important to look after our mental health as our physical health We have to do things every day to look after our bodies, such as cleaning our teeth. But we also have to look after our minds. Our 10 tools will help you to do this. However you do need to practise them regularly as you never know when you might need them.
Building Resilience Be ready for anything Skipper now knows that whatever he faces, whatever the unexpected twists and turns in his story of life, he has the tools to help him cope. So he lifts up the anchor of his new boat and sets sail again…
Building Resilience Think about how you have adapted to the unexpected during lockdown. How have you looked after your mental health and wellbeing? Which of the tools have you been using? Task Make your own toolkit Treasure Chest, using a shoe box or the net provided if you wish. Decorate it in your favourite colours and patterns. Put in it pictures, words, phrases or objects that show the tools that you have been using during lockdown, which has been an unexpected change for us all.
