His friend Buddy asks Skipper if he will give up some of his free time to teach him how to skate. Skipper is happy to help. Ask yourself… Can you think of a time when someone asked for your help?

Building Resilience We can say or do kind things What are things you could do in school that would fill someone else’s buckets? Our actions and our words show that you care about someone. By doing nice things for others, we fill their bucket and can make ourselves feel good too.
Building Resilience Simple acts of kindness Skipper begins to teach Buddy the things he needs to know to learn to skate. Together they practise over and over. Not only does this make a big difference to Buddy, but Skipper also feels good for helping. These acts of kindness require very little effort but can make a big difference to others.
Building Resilience Being unkind hurts others, and it hurts us too
Building Resilience We can all be unkind sometimes What are things people do in school that empty other people’s buckets? When we do and say things to someone else that are mean, uncaring or disrespectful, we become ‘bucket dippers’. When we upset and hurt someone else, we empty our own buckets too.
Building Resilience We can try to make things better when we have been unkind Sorry! When we hurt others, we can help repair the relationship with a sincere apology or doing something to make up for what we have done.

Building Resilience Treat yourself as you would treat a good friend Be kind to yourself, remember you are only human and everyone suffers or gets things wrong sometimes. When things go wrong, remember to give yourself a break.

Building Resilience Family Activity Try to do an act of kindness every day. Offer to help someone who is struggling, pay someone a compliment or make someone smile. Class Task Create a class Kindness Tree or a Bucket Filling display for your class. Share the acts of kindness your class have done. Add it to your H&WB Toolkit classroom display.
