Building our Future, Honoring our Legacy
If the Church is the soul of the redeemer, the parish is its heart. Through Gods grace, we are free to lives of gratitude and hope. As we sit in a pew, participate in a ministry or visit St. Peter School we feel gods grace. We feel this grace as hope as we envision how our chapel, ministry center and school can support our mission to its fullest.
§ St. Peter Catholic Church is a cherished gift handed down from one generation of parishioners to the next generation over more than 112 years. Our church has grown from a seed planted in Monument, Colorado in the early 1900’s. § Its heritage goes back to 12 families who celebrated Mass, and planted the tiny seed of the first church in Monument in 1909, a seed that has grown into the thriving St. Peter Church of today. Our congregation continues to sow the SEEDS that make God’s love real in Monument. § Its roots are solid and its branches still growing strong. Construction of a church began in 1911, and this building currently stands north of the new church. By the middle of the 1970 s, the mission’s members numbered 90 families. Ground was broken for a new church in 1977 under the guidance of Father William Vollmer. The church community became a parish with a new church building in 1984, with Father Dean Kumba being named the first resident pastor.
§ Our plan to create a welcoming ministry center and chapel, starts with the renovation of the current chapel structure with an addition of a new ministry center. § The need to renovate the chapel and add a ministry center has become an opportunity to rethink the relationship of that building to the rest of our campus and the neighborhood. With its central role and location, we envision the chapel and ministry center as a hub that offers community space for our ministries, allows other outside groups meeting space and unifies our campus that will make it more welcoming to all. § We have a vital and vibrant church community. This ought to be revealed in the entrances to all of our buildings and the rooms within them. We will create a building that encourages involvement and gathering spaces to foster fellowship. The addition of this much needed space will dramatically increase and improve the available gathering spaces, providing more varied options to accommodate groups up to 175. Every event, program and project we undertake will benefit.
St. Peter is grateful to have a thriving parish in a growing community. As we have grown and the community has grown we continue to seek ways to connect and remain connected in our community. Our ministries have a global footprint in in the community and surrounding communities. We are proud to support our local charities as well. The next few slides are a glimpse of the reach we have in the community.
