Building Capacity on Protected Areas Law Governance Module
Building Capacity on Protected Areas Law & Governance Module 8 Exercise 2 Conveying Understanding of Basic Principles and Concepts of Connectivity Conservation - Intro
Background Purpose Create an appreciation of the different types of governance that can be used in connectivity conservation. Provide an opportunity for Learners to understand issues of scale and how they relate to governance of connectivity conservation areas. Develop an understanding of the issues that impact governance of connectivity conservation areas. Enable Learners to reflect on the manner in which these issues may arise in a practical setting. Structure Introduction to exercise and practical scenario (suggested time allocation, 10 minutes) Group work (suggested time allocation, 60 minutes) Joint class discussion (suggested time allocation, 50 minutes)
The Case Study
The Exercise Reflect on the practical scenario and how it relates to the explanations and discussion in the seminar presentation. Identify possible types of connectivity and appropriate scale of connectivity for the practical scenario. Identify the types of governance arrangements that could be used. Identify the key factors that will influence the connectivity initiative proposed in the practical scenario and the choice of governance arrangements for it.
The Tasks Question 1 What types of connectivity could be used to create the potential corridor? Question 2 What should be the scale of the possible connectivity corridor? Question 3 Based on the answers to the previous questions, what type of governance arrangements do you propose for the potential corridor? For each question, describe the factors that determine your choices.
Joint Group Discussion Learners will volunteer or the Educator will select at least three groups to present their findings to the entire group. Learners will engage each other with a view to improving each others’ understanding of the types and scales of connectivity conservation and the options for governance arrangements.
