A Bit of History… • • The Building Blocks for Recruitment and Retention was developed by AHP as part of the SAMHSA Behavioral Health Workforce Development Initiative In 2007, an expert panel identified staff recruitment and retention as a field priority Resources initially developed in “hard copy” then converted to an on-line resource AHP and SAAS partnered to pilot and disseminate the resource
Building Blocks for Recruitment & Retention Purpose: To sharpen skills in identification, selection and retention of staff to build a better workforce and is geared toward building or maintaining effective recruitment and retention practices.
Building Blocks for Recruitment & Retention • • This is an on-line resource for recruiting and retaining staff for behavioral health organizations Three years in design “Living” resource designed to grow and evolve to meet the current and future needs of the field Includes resources for download and customization to individual organization needs

The Pilot • Participants will get access to and use: – – – Building Blocks for Recruitment and Retention Join BHTalk Pilot Group Monthly Webinars Technical Assistance – Group A only Registration fee for SAAS conference in Boston this July • Participation was solicited through the SAAS membership the first week in January – Complete application with 2 week turnaround • Received 54 applications – more than expected…. .
Purpose of the Pilot • • An initial step to disseminate the resources Semi-structured process for testing materials and presentation format Gather feedback about changes and improvements Test the use of professional networking as an aid/tool in using the materials and supporting the pilot activities

About Social Networking • A “social network” is an online community where members with common interests build relationships, partnerships, and collaboration. • On a social network, members can: – Create profiles to share information about themselves – Connect with other members by making them “friends” – Communicate publicly or privately – Generate and respond to content
Behavioral Health Technical Assistance Learning Community BHTalk • BHTalk is an interactive venue to promote collaboration and knowledge development in behavioral healthcare. • People joining the community are: – Pilot Testers for the Recruitment and Retention Toolkit Program – Professionals, paraprofessionals, and peer providers in behavioral health and related fields – Representatives of programs and organizations in behavioral healthcare – Individuals who receive behavioral healthcare services – Family members of service recipients – Other stakeholders in the field
Members Matter • • Members make BHTalk a meaningful, useful, and vibrant resource through their participation in groups and other community features.
