Building a Truly Collaborative Organisation A Short Introduction
Building a Truly Collaborative Organisation A Short Introduction to Plan. Adapt
Who We Work For People that struggle with the impacts of climate change and climate injustice, particularly in the Global South
What We Aim to Improve Walking the last mile of knowledge transfer and learning Taking knowledge to places where it is most needed Helping to move adaptation knowledge beyond academic and expert circles
Principles We Care About • • • Social inclusiveness / leaving no one behind Nature-based / ’using ecosystems better to adapt’ Economically just outcomes Who participates, who decides, who benefits – ‘process matters’ Who provides a service/ advice
‘How’ We Build Plan. Adapt Matters to Us command control title and rank central planning catalysing inclusive decision-making hierarchy meritocracy promotion and pay purpose and passion let the spark fly engagement We borrow principles from: holacracy, sociocracy 3. 0, steward ownership
A decentralised, global network of collaborators & learners

Working with Others, Plan. Adapt. . . helps to build networks and partnerships, such as an expert network on the climate-soil nexus or the FEBA working group on urban ecosystembased adaptation . . . provides offline and online training courses and learning journeys on climate risk management for practitioners, planners and other stake-holders, in collaboration with universities and other training institutes. With the aim to provide contextspecific, learner-driven and culture-sensitive capacity development. . shapes learning opportunities and curricula for training courses, study pro-grammes, leadership academies such as a Double Degree MSc Programme at Arizona University (USA) and Leuphana University Lüneburg (Germany) or a leadership training for future leaders in Central Asian countries.
Working with Others, Plan. Adapt. . . conducted an economic study, commissioned by the African Development Bank, in preparation of the World Water Week 2018 in Stockholm. The study focused on innovative financing instruments for ecosystems management in Africa. . conducts studies and action-oriented research such as a study on direct and indirect impacts of climate change on the European economy, exploring the significance of damage and loss caused by weather events in Europe itself and those ‘travelling’ to Europe via supply chains, migration and financial markets. . contributes to make scenarios about future climate more accessible to users and stakeholders and shape related toolkits in a user-friendly way. For example, the SENSES toolkits will help to better anticipate climate impacts and support co-developed social and political scenarios to make decisions about future resource management (e. g. water in transboundary river basins) and trade-offs.
Working with Others, Plan. Adapt. . . provides advice to local and national governments, muni-cipalities and businesses on how to integrate climate risk in their processes and procedure. Plan. Adapt, for example, advised the learning from climate action to support future programming in Cambodia. . supported the Government of Vietnam at national, provincial and municipal levels to analyse and assess potential urban ecosystembased adaptation measures for Dong Hoi city. This included questions about sustainable and climateresilient approaches to waste water management or the drainage system to manage excess storm water. . advised the Moroccan Government in its efforts that will help to translate planning into action. In particular, Plan. Adapt worked with the Working Group on ‘Adaptation et Vulnérabilité’ under the ‘Secrétariat d’Etat Chargé du Développement Durable (SEDD)’ to identify and prioritise climate adaptation measures across various sectors.
If you are interested to further engage. . . feel invited to join our network or one of our activities and formats, such as the Climate Co. Adaptation Lab or the Plan. Adapt Topic Forum. . . or leave us a message at info@plan-adapt. org THANK YOU!!!
