Gather The Lord be with you And also with you Let the light of Christ shine in our lives
Receive ‘Pray then in this way: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one. From the Gospel according to Matthew, Chapter 6
Engage Jesus, when asked about how to pray, taught his disciples to say a prayer – this prayer we now call “The Lord’s Prayer” (Latin – Pater Noster). It is a prayer that brings together all our hopes and also our attitude to the world about us – so it praises God, asks for God’s Kingdom to be here on earth, for the things that we need to live our daily lives, forgiveness and the strength to forgive others and finally protection from all that is evil. The final part of the prayer “For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever” is found in other early Christian writings.
Engage Some discussion ideas … ‘In times of difficulty, many people may pray - it seems to be something that when we don't know what else to do, we stop looking at ourselves and look to someone much bigger for help. ' • Do you agree with the above statement or not? Why? • Have you ever prayed? Was your prayer answered or not? • If you could say anything to God, what would it be?
