Chicago Citation When to cite a source: Claims of fact References to specific cases or statutes Statistics or studies Any idea and/or wording that is not your own PLR articles use footnotes in accordance with the Chicago citation style You may omit the bibliography
Chicago Citation For legal statutes: Provide the statute code and subsection (if appropriate) e. g. , 18 U. S. C. § 2251(a) For court rulings: Provide the case name in italics, then a comma, then the docket number, then the case year (in parentheses), and, lastly, a period. e. g. , Plessy v. Ferguson, 163 US 537 (1896). e. g. , EMC Corporation v. Pure Storage, Inc. , NO. 13 -12789 -JGD (2016).
Chicago Citation Please do NOT use the “Insert à Footnote…” function when typing up your article in a Word document Instead, manually input the footnote number At the end of the article, provide a list of the corresponding citations (like a Works Cited page) This will spare your editor(s) from a significant amount of pain and suffering The citation does not follow through— cite the source again and put “ibid. ”
