About Unit 2: Global Destinations is one of the units that you will study during the second year of the course. Global destinations are a key aspect of travel and tourism and their appeal is strongly influenced by factors such as their location, access and changing trends. In this unit, you will use a range of resources to investigate the location and features of global destinations and explain the features that give appeal to global destinations and support different types of tourism. You will investigate the reasons the popularity of global destinations may change. This unit will enable you to progress to higher-education courses by developing your knowledge of how to carry out research and make decisions based on information from a variety of sources. Assessment Outcomes for Unit 2: Global Destinations A 01: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the location, features and appeal of global destinations. A 02: Apply knowledge and understanding of the features that contribute to the appeal of global destinations and the types of tourism and activities they support. A 03: Evaluate information to make informed decisions about the suitability of travel plans, routes and itineraries to meet the needs of specified customers. A 04: Be able to evaluate factors and consumer trends that influence the popularity and appeal of global destinations, synthesizing ideas and evidence to support recommendations.

What do I need to do? In preparation for starting Unit 2: Global Destinations in September, you are going to create a series of travel guides about specific ‘Global Destinations’. The Global Destinations unit, requires you to undertake lots of research surrounding different global destinations to broaden your knowledge and understanding of the features and appeal of different destinations. Each week between now and the end of the term, you are going to create a series of travel guides for different, popular global destinations. Each travel guide will follow a similar format, however each destination will be different in terms of its appeal to different customers. This information guide contains a template that you should use for your research into each destination. You should complete your research by filling in the boxes in this guide. In September, this guide will be used to help form discussion points in lessons. REMEMBER: Keep a bibliography of all of the websites and sources of information that you have used.
