What is Safety Culture? Safety Culture is based on a shared belief system where safety is integral in every part of our organization. Safety at the Lab is not about numbers. It’s about people doing meaningful work and going home each day to their families proud about their accomplishments.

Safety Culture: Future State “We are committed to a safe, injury-free workplace by integrating safety into our daily decisions and work processes. ” Ø Senior Lab Leaders are engaged and show that they care about the safety of their people. Ø Line Managers integrate safety into every activity of their groups. Ø Safety communication is supportive, proactive and consistent with ISM and other safety activities. Ø Employees act safely at work and at home. Safety is an integral part of who they are.
The Next Phase of SCI at LBNL The SCI Work Group is meeting regularly, drafting a Work Plan, and setting up communication and tracking systems. 1. Coordination of Division Initiatives Task Lead: Scott Robinson Task Activities: Ø Compile division Initiatives and timelines Ø Provide quarterly updates and status meetings
2. Implementation of Lab-Wide SCI Initiatives Task Lead: Doug Fleming Task Activities: Ø Identify Lab-Wide SCI opportunities Ø Select and coordinate the implementation of the improvements Ø Track and monitor implementation and effectiveness of the improvements
3. Outreach Campaign Task Lead: Cait Youngquist Task Activities: Ø Create a Safety Culture brand Ø Establish systems for conducting SCI communications (presentations, TABL articles, maintenance of web site, etc. ) Ø Design, expand, enhance SCI web site Ø Schedule and publish TABL articles Ø Schedule SCI Update presentations

Engaging Senior Management Task Lead: Mike Martin Task Activity: Ø Increase the visibility of recognizing safety accomplishments Ø Support Senior Management in probing for areas to improve Ø Assist Senior Management in performing the role of SCI spokesperson to stakeholders: employees, DOE, public.
5. Long Term Strategic Plan for Safety Culture Improvement Task Lead: Mike Ruggieri Task Activity: Ø Benchmark LBNL SCI activities to other organizations Ø Obtain input (e. g. best practices) from Dupont Ø Draft three-year Strategic Plan Ø Obtain approval from Senior Management on the final Plan.
