Cognitive Psychology This is the structure and functions of the mind itself. Cognitive psychologists study how the mind knows things, and the process how it uses that knowledge.
Cognitive neuroscience This combines the knowledge of the brain itself, and cognitive processes in the mind.
Cognitive processes Cognitive processes involve and include perception, thinking, problem solving, memory, language, and attention. Cognition is based on mental representations of one’s surroundings, like images, words, and concepts.
Principles of CLOA Human beings are information processors and mental processes guide behaviour. The mind can be studied scientifically by developing theories and using a number of scientific research methods. Cognitive processes are influenced by social and cultural factors.
Mental processes guide behaviour Psychologists see the brain as a type of machine where it processes information, then there is the output of one’s form behaviour.
The mind can be studied scientifically This is shown by continually testing different theories of cognition
Cognitive processes are influenced by social and cultural factors This was first seen when psychologist Frederic Bartlett noticed that people couldn’t remember stories from different cultures, so they formed a story that fit their own culture. People remember things that make sense to them and in terms of meaning, our brains don’t record things precisely
