BRITTANY AS A LEADER Brittany Thomas 1 st block
My Introduction My name is Brittany Autumn Thomas. I am currently 17 years old and a Senior at Fraser High School. I recently just transferred to this school for the 2 nd semester from P-CEP in Canton. I have two older siblings- and I live with my mother and sister. I love interior decorating, writing, designing- anything requiring creativity.
Preparation for Leadership A lot of very influential people have prepared me for leadership. Some of my biggest influences of leadership are Erin Gruwell (“Freedom Writers” movie based on her true story), Rosa Parks, Abraham Lincoln, and my mother. The things that have prepared me for leadership are my past life experiences. I learned to lead after acquiring traits of strength, determination, intelligence, and bravery- they’ve all played roles in making me the leader I am today.
My Leadership Influences
My Leadership Position Today, my leadership position is small. I’m a leader amongst myself and my friends. I led my sister off of a dangerous path and this resulted in her getting her life back together. I lead people to becoming strong, happy, and brave people- I am quite the comic relief when times are bad, therefore I have the ability to lead others to want to bring people’s spirits up just the same. I dream to one day be as well known a leader as Martin Luther King Jr. or Rosa Parks.
Furthering My Leadership In order to further myself as a leader I need to mature, acquire such traits such as patience, and deeper understanding- because a leader doesn’t lead until they get tired or angry. A leader is someone who devotes their life to change and is willing to devote their lives to guiding other people in the correct direction of the changes they want to make. I could observe more leaders, see what skills and abilities they all have in common to get a general idea of the type of person a successful leader is.
My Strengths: Courage… One of my many traits is Courage. Being courageous, in my opinion, is a huge part of being a leader. This is because, when leading you have to be courageous enough to stick around and fulfill the goal even when things get hard and may cloud the way. Someone who is a leader is automatically courageous, because they’ve taken on the challenge of fighting for the well being of others- a job which not many people are lined up for.
Determination… Another trait that I posses is Determination is probably one of the biggest parts of being a leader. If you aren’t determined, you can’t be a leader. Determination is the drive that keeps you going. No matter how many times you may fail at first, and now matter how distant the dream may be getting from you- determination keeps you going and helps you accomplish that goal. In a leader’s case- leading.
Faith… Faith is another trait I posses. Faith is important when being a leader, because having faith in your mission makes you strive for it more and when you believe that you can accomplish something, no matter how complicated, you usually will. Having faith in my mission, in this case leading, means I know I can do it. Faith is the confidence portion of being a leader. Another very important quality to have.
Passion… Another strength I have is Passion pertains heavily to Leadership. I like to think of passion as the child of determination and faith. Passion is your undying love and devotion to a mission, again, in my case leading. With passion you never let the goal out of your sight-which even though at some times is hard to do, Passion allows you to get lost in your mission and it becomes a force even more powerful than determination or faith that helps you reach your goal.
Intelligence… Another strength that I have is Intelligence is also a must for Leadership. You cannot be a leader if you don’t have any clue what the goal is, or why the goal is important. You have to understand the who, what, why, where, when, and how portion of leadership before you can lead. The last thing people need is to be lead by someone who is not intelligent. ( )
Strength A strength I have is…Strength is very important for leaders to have. A strong leader will obviously get farther than a weak one. When leading, strength will play as another physical and mental drive. When you have strength then you have the capability of getting over obstacles that are in the way of success, and if you should cross a rough patch- when you’re beginning to lose sight of the goal- strength conquers that and gets you back on track.
My Weaknesses: Low Patience… A weakness I’ll admit that I am constantly faced with is my very short amount of patience. Low patience is not a good thing to have when trying to be a leader. To overcome this weakness I will need to rain myself to be more patient. Not everything is attainable overnight. Some things, the best things, take longer to achieve. If I can just train myself under this rule, then I would become a lot more loyal to leading.
Doubt Another horrible weakness I posses is Doubt is the absolute contradiction of faith. Having doubt and trying to be a leader is not good because if you’re not 100% confident in your mission, you’ll most likely fail. To overcome doubt, I will need to reassure myself whenever necessary that, that I can achieve anything, all I need is the motivation and the trust that it’s possible.
In Conclusion… Everyone, absolutely everyone and anyone can be a leader in their own way. There is no one type of leader. I’m a leader because I influence and guide friends, family, and even total strangers to be happier each day. It is my goal to always laugh and smile on my worst day - because that shows that not even your worst day can be completely ruined. I’m a leader because I try my hardest to display generosity and kindness everyday. Just because I can’t give African Americans rights or lead them to want to become more educated, does not mean I can’t make a positive change in someone’s life.
