Community Need When asked “Do you have the skills you need to get the kind of jobs you want? ” 20. 3% of respondents said no. Our program aims to change that by providing skill training to adults 18 -24 who are unemployed or employed in nonskilled labor. Community Need 1 in 5 people surveyed in Syracuse said that they do not feel they have the skills they need for the job that they want. This organization will provide training in two fields that require skilled training, are in demand, and have upward mobility: Nursing and Construction/Carpentry Nursing participants will be trained as Licensed Practical Nurses with supplemental training in computer skills. Nursing participants will be provided with scrubs, appropriate shoes, and applicable equipment. Construction/Carpentry participants will be placed in on the job mentorship programs that will teach basic framing, basic electrical maintenance, basic plumbing, and roofing. Participants will be provided with jobsite appropriate clothing, small business administration classes, and given job appropriate tools. Participants will help finance their certifications by working an average of 12 hours a week in their field, the program will receive $12 per hour in funding.
