Recognizing a complex situation: How do you know you are in a complex situation? – Too many elements to understand by direct observation- requires multiple perspectives – An issue that technique can’t analyze adequately – No direct solution – requires multiple interventions and time to see how they do – So multifaceted that any action has unanticipated consequences – Conflicting assumptions or values
