Indications Short span Sound teeth Ridge resorption Patients preference Mentally compromised Physically handicapped
Contraindications Large amount of bone loss Very young patients Periodontally compromised abutments Long span Bilateral span Congenitally malformed teeth Mentally sensitive patients Very old Medically compromised
Diagnosis History Diabetes: ○ High risk of periodontal diseases therefore increase chances of abutment failure Xerostomia ○ High risk of caries (Fluoridation is advisable) Cardiovascular diseases ○ Electrosurgical procedures are contraindicated ○ Adrenaline is avoided in LA & retraction cord E/O Examination TMJ I/O Examination
Diagnostic casts Dimensions of edentulous spaces Height, rotation & inclination of abutment teeth's Presence of any wear facets (attrition) Radiographic examination Caries Level of alveolar bone Crown-root ratio of abutment teeth Morphology of roots of abutment teeth Quality of endodontinc restorations Width of periodontal ligament space
Treatment Planning Resin bonded FDP Defect free abutments Single missing anterior tooth/premolar Young patients Abutments with less than 150 axial inclination Absence of deep bite Conventional tooth supported FDP Periodontally sound teeth Short span Absence of any uncorrectable soft tissue defect Presence of proper salivation Implant supported FDP Long span Free end saddle High caries risk patient Young adults
