Brian’s Winter By: Lexi Scherf and Wyatt Kiley

Main Character • Brian is the main character and he is very confident. He learns a lot from being in the woods by himself. He is also very independent.

Setting • Brian is in Northern Canada. In the beginning of the story it was warm still, but as the story went on it became colder and he finally realized that it was Winter.

Mood Brian was mad and sad at the same time because he thought he would never get rescued. Brian was frightened when he saw the wolves killing the moose. Brian was happy at the end of the story because he found more people and got rescued.

Problem • A bear kept coming to Brian’s shelter because he could smell the meat that Brian was cooking and the one time it wrecked the shelter and Brian had to rebuild it again.

Solution • There was a skunk that kept coming around for food and Brian kept feeding it so he named it Betty came for food one time when the bear was there then Betty sprayed the bear so it would not come back again.

Theme • All you need to have in order to survive is your intelligence and your instincts. He used his instincts when he would only shoot the animals if he knew he had the right equipment.

Captions for pictures Lexi’s picture: My picture is of the back of Brian when he was looking at the L shaped lake and he saw the line in the snow on the lake. That lead him to the people he met then he was rescued! Wyatt’s Picture: My picture is from when Brian first realized there was snow on the ground. He had a lot of things he had to do including gather fire wood and hunt so he had enough meat.
