Brentwood Learning Models
Facilitation and Collabo ration ● Brentwood and SSD administration have worked side-by-side through collaborative planning efforts over the last several months ● These collaborative efforts include: ○ Weekly administrative planning meetings ○ Building walkthroughs to review instructional spaces & determine re-entry needs ○ Selection of Canvas and Launch platforms, including staff training ○ Frequent and consistent communication between SSD and Brentwood to problem-solve and proactively plan to meet the needs of students and staff ● Feedback from students and families (surveys) ● Feedback from staff (surveys, committees, meetings)
Facilitation and Collabo ration ● SSD resource links have been posted on Brentwood’s re-entry website ● SSD staff will participate in and follow all procedures, protocols, and training along with Brentwood staff ● Strategies to reduce the spread of COVID-19 will be practiced by all SSD staff/employees ● SSD staff members will have face coverings (cloth masks, reusable face shields) and other essential PPE ● SSD will provide its staff in Brentwood with any necessary PPE that is not provided by Brentwood
Facilitation and Collabo ration Student needs will be met through consistent collaboration between staff and families: Lead Area Coordinator (Tami Yates) - Will be available on a daily basis for SSD and Brentwood staff, students and families to help support and problem-solve. The Lead AC will provide communication and updates to teacher-level staff through a weekly meeting. Lead AC will complete a daily log reflecting staff, family and partner district contact and content. SSD Case Manager - Will coordinate with all service providers and be the primary family contact for all services. Case managers will be responsible for the development of the distance learning plan (DLP). SSD Teacher - Teachers will provide 5 learning activities, 3 live virtual lesson formats per week, based on skill area in the IEP to support progress of learning. They will hold 1 hour daily office hours at varied times throughout the week. SSD Related Service Providers - Will work with the case-manager to provide necessary related instruction/support for students. This also means providing direct scheduled virtual learning sessions. These sessions could be small group sessions or one-on-one with family permission. Office hours will be held daily at varied times throughout the week to support student learning. SSD Paraprofessionals - Paras will support instruction as directed by their teachers, including preparing materials, data collection, supporting live sessions and instructing small groups. Paraprofessionals will assume the role of teacher as a substitute as directed for teacher absences.
Facilitation and Collabo ration Additional supports may include: ABA - Associate will provide 2 live virtual sessions per week, monitor para programming and provide programming proportional to the number of service minutes indicated in the IEP, as well as 1 -hour daily office hours offered at varied times throughout the week. ABA will keep family contact logs that will be shared with the student’s case manager. Facilitators - Facilitators will offer open office hours for support the first and last working hour of each day. In addition, facilitators will attend virtual lessons to offer feedback and support to new teachers. Facilitators will be available as requested by teachers and administrators to support teachers with virtual learning. Facilitators/Coaches not assigned Academy One Teachers will complete 5 learning activities to be added to the academic toolkit per week. Effective Practice Specialists - EPS will have open office hours the first and last working hour of the day. EPS will check in with teachers of their targeted area weekly. EPS will support teachers, families and administrators with virtual learning, schedules and best practices and complete a daily log reflecting staff contact and content.
Distance Learning Plans (DLP) - Overview ● As SSD staff return to work in August, they will be collaborating with parents to develop updated Distance Learning Plans. ● Distance learning will include direct (live virtual) instruction as well as lessons/learning activities, support and consultation. ● DLPs will be completed by Case Managers in consultation with special education teachers, related service providers, general education staff, and families ● A formal meeting is not necessary in order to complete the plans. Effective collaboration to develop the plan can take place in a variety of ways. ● Every two weeks, plans will be reviewed by the Case Manager in consultation with service providers and parents/guardians. Plans will be adjusted, only if necessary, and resubmitted.
Distance Learning Plans (DLP) - Overview ● Are based on and grounded in the IEP ● The individualized Distance Learning Plans address: ○ ○ ○ Goals Services Accommodations and modifications Access to curriculum Available resources ● Services may be provided in the following formats: ○ ○ Direct (live/synchronous) Lessons and activities (asynchronous) Support of general education instruction Consultation
DLP - Special Education Services ● Distance learning for special education services will consist of these components: ○ ○ ○ Teachers will provide 5 learning activities to be completed independently per week across the skills areas outlined in the Distance Learning Plan. Teachers will provide 3 live group lessons per week. Teachers will hold virtual office hours for 1 hour per day at various times throughout the week. One half day a week will be allotted to staff for collaboration, planning, and paperwork. Assignment completion will be monitored, graded (when appropriate), and feedback given. Teachers will have assessments that provide evidence of learning aligned with instructional outcomes and/or course expectations. When a student is not attending the live sessions and/or not submitting the assignments the teacher will contact the school designee (ex. Social worker; counselor) for follow up to determine needed supports.
DLP - Related Services (Speech/Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Social Work/Counseling, Music Therapy) ● ● Students who will be attending school in person will receive related services in person according to the provider schedule to meet the needs of all students with related services on the IEP. Students who will be participating in 100% distance learning by choice, can choose one of the following options for provision of related services: a. Students can receive related services in person in the building. Parents can make a request to do so and students will be permitted to attend school for their related services only during their scheduled time. PLEASE NOTE: Transportation will not be available for parents who request to participate in the provision of related services in the building. OR b. Related services will be delivered via distance learning for students who have services in the IEP. This instruction will be provided using direct instruction (Live Virtual Instruction) if documented on the IEP, videos and/or, lessons and activities, support and consultation for students, staff and families. c. Disclaimer: If Brentwood goes into full school closure, ALL related services will be delivered via distance learning.
