Objetivo En la siguiente presentación nos enfocaremos en mostrar qué son las emociones, cual es la función que estas tienen en nosotros y algunos tipos de emociones; Todo esto desde un punto de vista psicológico.

Introducción "Casi todo el mundo piensa que sabe qué es una emoción hasta que intenta definirla. En ese momento prácticamente nadie afirma poder entenderla" (Wenger, Jones y Jones, 1962, pg. 3). La psicología de la emoción es una de las áreas de la psicología en la que existe un mayor número de modelos teóricos, pero quizás también un conocimiento menos preciso
Son consideradas como la reacción inmediata del ser vivo a una situación que le es favorable o desfavorable. La mayoría de las definiciones de emoción distingue cuatro elementos: ü -Análisis de situaciones significativas ü - Interpretación subjetiva de las mismas ü - La expresión emocional o comunicación de todo el proceso ü - La preparación para la acción o movilización de comportamiento ü - Los cambios en la actividad fisiológica.
Función de las emociones Todas las emociones tienen alguna función que les confiere utilidad y permite que el sujeto ejecute con eficacia las reacciones conductuales apropiadas y ello con independencia de la cualidad hedónica que generen. Según Reeve (1994), la emoción tiene tres funciones principales: a. Funciones adaptativas b. Funciones sociales c. Funciones motivacionales
En relación a la función adaptativa de las emociones, éstas preparan al organismo para hacer frente a las demandas o exigencias del entorno y lo dirigen hacia un objetivo
La función social, hacen referencia al papel que las emociones ejercen en la adaptación del individuo a su entorno social, y los principales medios de comunicación del estado emocional a los demás son la expresión facial y los movimientos de la postura juntamente con la expresión verbal.
Funciones motivacionales: La relación entre emoción y motivación es íntima, ya que se trata de una experiencia presente en cualquier tipo de actividad que posee las dos principales características de la conducta motivada, dirección e intensidad. La emoción energiza la conducta motivada.
Tipos de emociones En este apartado vamos a repasar algunas de las características principales de emociones como alegría, tristeza, ira, sorpresa, miedo y asco, que son sobre las que existe un mayor consenso a la hora de considerarlas como distintivas.
Alegría Actividad fisiológica -Aumento en actividad en el hipotálamo, septum y núcleo amigdalino (Delgado, 1992) -Aumento en frecuencia cardiaca, si bien la reactividad cardiovascular es menor que en otras emociones, como ira y miedo (Cacioppo y cols. , 1993). Función -Genera actitudes positivas hacia uno mismo y los demás, favorece el altruismo y empatía (Isen, Daubman y Norwicki, 1987). -Sensaciones de vigorosidad, competencia, trascendencia y libertad (Meadows, 1975) Experiencia subjetiva -Estado placentero, deseable, sensación de bienestar. -Sensación de autoestima y autoconfianza (Averill y More, 1993).
Ira Actividad fisiológica -Elevada actividad neuronal y muscular (Tomkins, 1963). -Reactividad cardiovascular intensa (elevación en los índices de frecuencia cardiaca, presión sistólica y diastólica) (Cacioppo y cols. , 1993). Función -Movilización de energía para las reacciones de autodefensa o de ataque (Averill, 1982). Experiencia subjetiva -Sensación de energía e impulsividad, necesidad de actuar de forma intensa e inmediata (física o verbalmente) para solucionar de forma activa la situación problemática.
Miedo Actividad fisiológica -Aceleración de la frecuencia cardiada, incremento de la conductancia y de las fluctuaciones de la misma (Cacioppo y cols. , 1993). Función -Facilitación de respuestas de escape o evitación de la situación peligrosa. El miedo es la reacción emocional más relevante en los procedimientos de reforzamiento negativo (Pierce y Epling, 1995). Experiencia subjetiva -Se trata de una de las emociones más intensas y desagradables. Genera aprensión, desasosiego y malestar. -Sensación de pérdida de control.
Tristeza Actividad fisiológica -Ligero aumento en frecuencia cardiaca, presión sanguínea y resistencia eléctrica de la piel (Sinha, Lovallo y Parsons, 1992). Función -Disminución en el ritmo de actividad. Valoración de otros aspectos de la vida que antes de la pérdida no se les prestaba atención (Izard, 1991). Experiencia subjetiva -Desánimo, melancolía, desaliento. -Pérdida de energía
Sorpresa Actividad fisiológica -Patrón fisiológico característico del reflejo de orientación: disminución de la frecuencia cardiaca, Función -Facilitar procesos atencionales, conductas de exploración e interés por la situación novedosa (Berlyne, 1960). Experiencia subjetiva -Estado transitorio. Aparece rápidamente y de duración momentánea hasta para dar paso a una reacción emocional posterior. -Mente en blanco momentáneamente.
Asco Actividad fisiológica -Aumento en reactividad gastrointestinal -Tensión muscular Función -Generación de respuestas de escape o evitación de situaciones desagradables o potencialmente dañinas para la salud. Los estímulos suelen estar relacionados con la ingesta de forma que la cualidad fundamental es olfativa u olorosa (Darwin, 1872/1984) Experiencia subjetiva -Necesidad de evitación o alejamiento del estímulo. Si el estímulo es oloroso o gustativo aparecen sensaciones gastrointestinales desagradables, tales como náusea.
Conclusión Investigar sobre las emociones desde el punto de vista psicológico me ayudo principalmente a saber que era una emoción, ya que solo conocía esta definición de forma muy vaga. También pude ver que hay 3 formas de funciones de las emociones en las cuales cada una de ellas son muy distintas entre sí. La información sobre los tipos de emociones me ayudo a conocer más sobre ellas, ya que no solo es como es la característica de cada una de las emociones, sino que también tienen distintos actividades fisiológicas en las cuales nosotros casi nunca nos damos cuenta de ellas ya que muchas no son fáciles de observar, pero con toda la información sabes qué es lo que pasa aunque no lo veas.
