Brainstorming 1
Brainstorming Basics 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Think of as many ideas as possible. No idea is a bad idea – ideas may lead to other ideas. Don’t be afraid of being wrong; there is no wrong idea. Bad ideas spark good ones! The idea does not have to be original. What counts is the work it takes to make that idea a reality. 6. Think quantity – not quality. 7. Do not criticize others’ ideas. 8. No matter how silly an idea is, it must be written down. 2
Guide to Brainstorming • Step 1 - Define your problem or issue as a challenge. • Step 2 – Give yourself a time or idea limit (around 15 minutes per problem or issue and at least 20 ideas. ) • Step 3 – Once brainstorming starts, participants shout solutions to the problem while one person writes them down. This should be done on a white board, flip chart or Google Drive which is displayed for all to see. • Step 4 – Once time is up, select the five ideas which you like best. All should agree. • Step 5 – Write down five criteria for judging which ideas best solve the problem. • Step 6 – Give each idea a score of 0 -5 points. • Step 7 – The idea with the highest score will best solve your problem. Keep a record of all of the best ideas and their scores in case your best idea turns out not to be workable. . 3
Ask the questions… • What problems can you solve? • What are you interested in learning about or doing? • What would you like to create? 4
