HOW CAN WE HELP? PRACTICAL STRATEGIES • Do “with” the client. • Assist with daily tasks. • Walk through paperwork together and always make copies. • Make community introductions (bank, restaurant, gym). • Make regular meeting days/times. • Do routines together, over and over. • One task at a time. • Be prepared to try a different ‘tool’. • Take breaks and recognize fatigue. • Write notes. • Advocate when appropriate. • Accompany client to appointments/meeting. • Always follow through with what you say. • Respect “fit”. The relationship matters.
HOW CAN WE HELP? PRACTICAL APPROACHES v Redesigning Lives to Achieve Maximum Potential. v No injury is the same; No journey is the same. v Celebrate the ‘small’ stuff. v Whatever it takes. v Don’t take it personally; it’s not our story. v TIME & PATIENCE v “Fit” Matters
