Boys Town Nevada Programs • • • Parent Connectors Common Sense Parenting Care Coordination Services In Home Family Services Well Managed Schools • All programs meet ESSA standards of evidence requirements
Parent Connectors • Parents helping parents • Phone intervention • Gives parents the opportunity to speak to a parent who has been in their situation and who can help parents navigate the path to help services within the school and community. • Duration of services: 3 months
Common Sense Parenting • Evidence based parenting class provided in the school • Provides parenting techniques to build stronger family relationships, prevent and correct misbehavior, and improve child’s positive behavior. • Duration of Services: 6 weeks, 2 hours per week
Care Coordination Services • Family centered case management services • Links families to resources and supports, teaches them how to utilize services, monitors ongoing progress, and advocates for the families needs • Duration of services: 6 months
In Home Family Services • Services provided in the family’s home • Works with parents to improve parenting skills, access community resources, and building support systems so they can solve problems on their own. • Duration of Services: 10 -12 weeks
Well Managed Schools • Teacher training that includes ongoing consultation support and evaluation • School-based intervention strategy that focuses on managing behavior, building relationships, and teaching social skills. • 2017 – Assessments done at Von Tobel Middle School and Cambeiro Elementary School
Outcomes • Beginning in 2016, data tracking and evaluation by Boys Town National Research Institute • 2016 -2017 School Year Data – Served – 254 families, 715 youth – 70% of families successfully completing services – Establishing a data collection processes to evaluate office referrals and attendance as well as a tool to measure parent engagement
Funding • Englestad Family Foundation Matching Campaign – Englestad Family Foundation, Boys Town National Strategic Opportunity Fund, Geraldine Howard Foundation, Hilton Foundation, Rogers Foundation and 70 other donors. – Funding through 2020
Parent Engagement • Our work with the family in their home focuses on creating an environment that supports the child’s educational development. • How do we get the parents engaged in services – Quick Engagement Interventions – Face to face meetings in their home – The parent is the expert on their child – Creating non-judgmental partnerships
