Born a Crime Synopsis This is an autobiographical memoir recounted by Trevor Noah. He writes about his experience growing up during and after apartheid in South Africa. He reflects on his birth to a Xhosa mother and Swiss father, and the inherent “crime” from the union- his existence as a mixed race child during apartheid. From being thrown out of cars to learning the (albeit illegal) ropes of young entrepreneurship, this text explores the impact of colonialism and postcolonialism, family, language, and the influence that one person can have in the world.
