Literacy Reading- Your child will have reading once a week. This will generally be on the same day each week. We have literature circles so your child will be expected to prepare a task to present to their group. There also separate reading skills lessons each week. This term we are looking at non fiction books.
Literacy Writing – An extended piece of writing will be done most weeks. It tends to be linked to their topic. To assess their writing the children have a 3 week rotation of self assessment, peer assessment and teacher assessment. Spelling is taught twice a week with reinforcement activities being done daily. A weekly test is given. Handwriting- It is our expectation that all children use Berol Cursive Script.
Numeracy Numeracy is place value, whole numbers, addition, subtraction, multiplication, divisions, decimals, fractions, percentages and negative numbers. Maths is time, money, shape, position and movement, information handling, measure, angle, chance and certainty. Each week there will be 3 Numeracy, 1 Maths and 1 Problem Solving lesson.
Numeracy We set for Numeracy between the 2 P 6 classes and within those sets we differentiate the work depending on your child’s needs. Maths and problem solving are taught in class and are also differentiated.
