Aims of this presentation To explain and discuss following The Fireworks Code How to have a safer & better Bonfire Night. To make sure everyone is safe & has an enjoyable Bonfire/Firework period

Firework Code • Only buy fireworks that have a CE mark, from licenced retailers. • Don’t drink alcohol if setting off fireworks. • Keep fireworks in a closed box and use them one at a time. • Read and follow the instructions on each firework, using a torch if necessary. • Light the firework at arm’s length with a taper and stand well back. • Always supervise children around fireworks.
Firework Code (continued) • Never return to a firework once it has been lit. • Light sparklers one at a time and wear gloves. Keep a bucket of water close by. • Never give sparklers to a child under five years old. • Don’t put fireworks in pockets and never throw them. • Don’t let off fireworks after 11 pm.

Did you also know • It is an offence to throw or set-off fireworks in the street or public place. This could result in prosecution and a fine of up to £ 5000. • Fireworks must not be sold to anyone under 18. • It is an offence to let fireworks off during the night (between 11 pm to 7 am) except on Bonfire Night (up to midnight), Diwali, New Year and Chinese New Year.

Sparklers can be dangerous too Light sparklers one at a time & always wear gloves. Supervise smaller children & never give sparklers to a child under five. Have bucket of cold water nearby to drop the spent sparkler rods into. Never throw sparklers.

Due to Covid-19, organised firework displays will not be held this year. Please do not build bonfires as these damage property, the environment and draw Fire Engines away from where they are needed. Social distancing rules allows you to mix only with members of your household or support bubble. The Fire Service is strongly advising communities not to have events at home.

Never use paraffin or petrol on a bonfire 10. Build your bonfire clear of buildings, sheds, fences and hedges 11. Make sure that the fire is out and surroundings are made safe before leaving 12. Don’t leave bonfires unattended. An adult should supervise it until it has burnt out. It if has to be left, damp it down with water 13. Always keep a bucket of water or a hosepipe nearby in case of emergency
