Boggle Hole YHA Visit 20 th July – 22 nd July 2015

The aim of the visit is to identify the similarities and differences between our rural location and that of a seaside location.

Brief Itinerary Monday Leave Monday morning - 8: 30 a. m. Packed Lunch at Whitby - 12: 00 noon Tour of Whitby to include the Abbey - 1: 00 p. m. - 3: 00 p. m. Arrive at Boggle Hole (unpack/fire drill/safety talk) - 4: 00 p. m. Tea - 5: 30 p. m. Evening Activity - 7. 00 p. m. - 9: 00 p. m. Tuesday Spend the day at Boggle Hole (A variety of activities are planned) Evening Activity - 7: 00 p. m. - 9: 00 p. m. Wednesday Morning Activity – 9: 00 a. m. - 12: 00 noon Lunch – 12: 00 noon Beachcombing Art Depart from Boggle Hole, arrive back at school approximately 6: 00 p. m.

Boggle Hole Safety – Risk Assessments have been carried out by members of Fitz. Herbert staff. Our accommodation is in the annex – The Crow’s Nest, which was built in 2015. The children will sleep in dorms with between 4 and 6 beds, bedding is provided. Staff bedrooms are in the same area. The accommodation is accessed by a security door which is coded.

Boggle Hole Cont. . All meals will be provided throughout the stay. We would suggest a spending money limit to £ 5 – We will be in Whitby for the majority of the day on Monday. Staff will look after children’s spending money if it is in a named purse or wallet but cannot be responsible for any loss if the children look after their own money.

What to take To reach Boggle Hole we need to walk down a path, which is approximately half a mile long! So please pack light in a small bag, holdall or rucksack (ones with wheels would be really good, but please don’t go out and buy one just for the trip). It would be helpful if all clothing was named as any lost property that is found can then be returned to the correct owner. Please pack a bin liner / carrier bags to put wet or dirty clothes in.

Kit List Cont… Any cameras or other personal items are taken at the owners risk and should have a name label on them. PLEASE NO MOBILE PHONES – If children are a little nervous on their first trip away a voice from home can make them feel worse. It is our aim to make them feel at home and we are aware that for some children this is their first sleepover. Please be assured that if a child should be very distressed we will call home anyway.

Medicines Any medicines should be clearly labelled, with the child’s name and instructions. These should be given to a member of staff before departure. Pupils must not keep medicines in their dormitory. WE ARE UNABLE TO ADMINISTER MEDICINE TO A CHILD WHOSE NAME IS NOT ON THE PACKAGING.

Other Information Please don’t forget that familiarity is important. Please let us know if you child has bedtime routines, is likely to wet the bed, has had a change of circumstances or has any concerns about the trip. Such knowledge will be treated sensitively and confidentially and will allow us to look after them to the best of our ability. If you have any further questions or concerns, however small, please feel free to speak to us.

Finally… Conduct Good behaviour is expected so that everyone enjoys the trip as much as possible. This includes respect for the centre and locality i. e. not dropping litter. In the very unlikely event of a child displaying unreasonable behaviour we can and will exercise the right to phone home and request their collection.
