Body Structure • The basic unit of all living things is called a cell. • 3 main Parts: Nucleus, Cell Membrane and Cytoplasm
Parts Defined • Nucleus- Control center of the cell. • Cytoplasm- Jelly like substance that contains the working parts of the cell inside the cell membrane. • Cell Membrane- Outer covering of the cell. Provides protection to the cell, structure and lets in water and other nutrients and keeps out the bad.
Body Structure • Cells make up tissues • Tissues make up Organs • Organs make up body systems
Homeostasis • The condition at which your body’s internal conditions are at a stable state. • Examples:
Skeletal and Muscular System • What are the main functions of the skeletal system? • Provide protection • Give your body shape and form

Muscular System • What is the main function of the muscular system? • The muscular system works with the skeletal system to make your body move. • 3 types of muscle: • Smooth Muscle • Cardiac Muscle • Skeletal Muscle
Nervous System • Main function- control the bodies activities through electrical impulse Parts of the Nervous system • Brain • Spinal Cord • Nerves
The Nervous System • Cerebrum- The largest and most complex part of the brain • Cerebellum- 2 nd largest part of the brain, controls muscle coordination, balance and posture. • Brain Stem- Controls Vision and breathing • Review chart on page 111
Endocrine System • Main Function- The endocrine system is to transfer information through chemical excretion. • Hormones are known as the chemical messengers in the body.
