Board of Trustees Newsletter Term 4 2019 Dear
Board of Trustees Newsletter – Term 4, 2019 Dear Hanmer Springs School Community, With the end of the year approaching our teachers are busy testing students and will be writing our new look end of year reports. A lot of work goes into assessments and preparing reports and we are fortunate to have staff who are conscientious and dedicated to your children. This will be another busy term, please refer to the school calendar to ensure you don’t miss any events. To our students, Despite only 9 weeks of the school year remaining, there are still many exciting learning opportunities for our students both inside and outside the classroom. We look forward to seeing you achieving your goals and lifting yourselves to the next level. Be proud of your achievements, celebrate them but always be humble. Integrity is one of our school values and one Mr Kay speaks of often. Integrity “doing the right thing and being true to yourself” should be present in all that we do, no matter who or where we are. A students behaviour and actions whether at school, on their way to or from school, while representing the school or when out of school should follow this moral compass. Let’s ensure we are all following this very important value. Hanmer Springs School Uniform Policy A massive thank you goes to everyone, parents and students, for the conscientious effort you are putting into ensuring the correct school uniform items are worn. The Board of Trustees is so stoked to see you embrace this; our students look fantastic and it really enhances the feeling of community and pride in our school. The Uniform Transition: Phase One: Term 4 2019 All Year 1 – 7 children will need to be wearing our current school uniform to school. • Year 8 s are also expected to be wearing our current school uniform. We are conscious that all Year 8 s may not have a fleece so a suitable alternative may be discussed with your child’s class teacher. Phase Two: Term 1 2020: All new enrolments will be required to purchase the new school uniform. Phase Three: Term 1 2021: All students will be required to be wearing the new uniform. Financial Assistance: The school will endeavour to assist students whose families have difficulty purchasing the correct uniform. This may be in the form of a letter to WINZ or passing on donated used uniform items. All new uniform items can be purchased from Mainland Uniforms either online at www. mainlanduniforms. co. nz or instore at 511 Wairakei Road, Christchurch. Sample sizes are available at the office so please see Mrs Duncan if you would like your child to try these on. Make sure you name your school uniform items! If you are unsure of the Hanmer Springs School Uniform Policy please refer to the school website or School Docs for clarification. Screen printed School Polo Shirts reduced to $17. 00, normally $23. 99. Limited stock available. School Polar Fleece Jackets reduced to $35. 00, normally $43. 99. Please see Mrs Duncan in the office to purchase. Thank you to Mrs Hirschfeld for washing all the items in the lost property during the holidays; apparently there were many fleeces in the pile. Those that were named have been returned however there were many unnamed. These fleeces are available at the office, please see Mrs Duncan.
School Accounts We greatly appreciate all the families whose school accounts have been paid and are up-to-date. Please be aware that the Term 3 accounts should now all have been cleared as we enter into the final term of the year. As a small school we run on a very tight budget and it makes it very difficult if the accounts are not cleared at the end of each term. It is also the reason that the school donation is so beneficial as it allows us to cater even more effectively for your children. If you would like to set up a payment plan please see Barbara in the school office. Remember a portion of the school donation can be claimed back in your annual tax return. Thank you for your cooperation with this. Property Update: Hanmer Springs Home & School The outstanding effort from our Home & School at the 2019 Stars in Your Eyes has seen the school gifted a cheque for $16, 000. This is a fantastic amount that will go towards the refit of the school tennis court into a multipurpose court. Thank you to everyone who supported the event: by being entertained in the audience, entering an act, providing sponsorship, being part of the production team or backstage crew or assisting with front of house. Our sponsors are incredible and we thank them for their continued generous contributions. The production team are an amazing constant for the show, without whom the show would not look or sound as professional as it does. This year’s M. C. Robbie Reid was brilliant and certainly helped with boosting the funds raised by the auction items. To the incredible girls on the Home & School and their families for supporting them, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THAT YOU DO! Family Fun Friday Fish ‘n’ Chip Night & Old Fashioned Games – Friday 29 th November, 5. 00 – 7. 00 pm. This is a fun social evening for students, staff, Bo. T and their families. Bring a picnic dinner, rug and enjoy an evening of fun activities with family and friends. Watch out for the flyer coming your way soon! We are well into Spring and the growth around is plain to see, the increased rainfall is certainly helping with this!! • Playground Upgrade Update: You will see that this is well underway and should be completed within a couple of weeks. Please remind your children that the area is out of bounds until the work is completed. We cannot wait to see the finished product and watch all the children enjoy this fantastic asset. Thanks to Michelle Saric and Mel Bollinger for all their work on this project. Big thanks to everyone who has supported the project with materials and time, in particular Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa. • School Vegetable Gardens: Are looking amazing, abundant with yummy fruit and vegetables. Thank you Barbara Duncan, Kirsty James, Mel Bollinger and Tori Rowley and the Gardening Club for all working on the gardens. The vege stall looks fabulous and is being well supported. Thank you to the Longs for all the Sheep Poo, this has been a great fundraiser and I am sure we will see many local gardens thriving because of it! • Kereru Classroom: We hope to have an update from the Ministry of Education very soon on whether this will be a refit or a new building. • Multipurpose Court: Final quotes are being gathered. Once received, funding will be sourced. We hope to be able to update you with more information by the end of the year. Firewood Fundraisers The school is extremely fortunate to have been generously gifted wood from several locals to be sold as a fundraiser for the school. The second wood working bee is on Saturday 23 November. Please contact Harley Manion on harley. manion@hanmersprings. school. nz or check out the Facebook notices if you can assist. A massive thank you to everyone involved, particularly Gavin’s Logging, the Phillips Family, Rusty Carrot Catering, everyone who supplied gear: splitters, trailers, tractors and who offered their time. Thank you Harley for all your work organising this fantastic fundraiser. Dear Parents, If you have any questions at any time regarding your child’s learning please direct these to your child’s teacher. Communicating your concerns early helps ensure that the matter is resolved quickly. If you still have concerns then please contact the Principal. Please remember that any communication will embrace the ‘Hanmer Way’ values. Have a brilliant final term for 2019!
