The Nine Phases of the Kemp Model Design Elements… Ask Yourself… Instructional Problem What instruction needs to be designed? Learner Characteristics What do I know about the learner? Task Analysis How will the learner apply the skills? How will the learner learn the skills? What skills are necessary to learn the content? Instructional Objectives What will the learner be able to do? Content Sequencing What are the prerequisites? What sequence is most logical for instruction? Instructional Strategies How will the instruction be presented? Designing the Message How will I arrange words and pictures to increase understanding and get the learner’s attention? Development of Instruction What media, equipment, and support staff is available to support the instruction? Evaluation Instruments What are the standards for achievement? How will learning be measured? (Morrison, Ross, & Kemp, 2007).
Why use the Kemp Model? Learner’s perspective Three unique elements: Planning Project management Support services Adaptable Process Project Management approach (Hanley, 2007).
