INTRODUCTION Ø Human brain, the most valuable creation of God. The man is called intelligent because of the brain. But we loss the knowledge of a brain when the body is destroyed after the death. Ø “BLUE BRAIN”- The name of the world’s first virtual brain. That means a machine that can function as human brain. 3
WHAT IS BLUE BRAIN? Ø It would be the worlds first virtual brain. Ø Within 30 years, we will be able to scan ourselves into the computers. Ø Is it really possible to create a human brain? Ø “YES", The IBM is now developing a virtual brain known as the BLUE BRAIN. 4
WHAT IS VIRTUAL BRAIN 5
Ø A machine that can function as brain Ø It can take decision. Ø It can think. Ø It can response. Ø It can keep things in memory. 6
WHY WE NEED VIRTUAL BRAIN 7
Ø To upload contents of the natural brain into it. Ø To keep the intelligence , knowledge and skill of any person for ever. Ø To remember things without any effort. 8
FUNCTIONS OF NATURAL BRAIN 9
Ø Sensory Input : Receiving input such as sound , image, etc through sensory cell. Ø Interpretation: Interpretation of the received input by the brain by defining states of neurons in the brain. Ø Motor Output: Receiving of electric responses from the brain to perform any action. 10
BRAIN SIMULATION 11
NATURAL BRAIN VS SIMULATED BRAIN Natural Brain Ø Input Ø By neurons Ø By sensory cells Virtual Brain Ø Input Ø Through the silicon chip or artificial neurons Ø Electric impulses Ø Interpretation Ø By different states of the neurons in the brain. Ø By a set of bits in the set of register 12
OUTPUT Through the natural neurons. PROCESSING Through arithmetic and logical calculations OUTPUT Through the silicon chip. PROCESSING MEMORY Through permanent states of neurons Through arithmetic and logical calculation and artificial intelligence MEMORY Through Secondary memory 13
UPLOADING HUMAN BRAIN Ø The uploading is possible by the use of small robots known as the NANOBOTS. Ø These robots are small enough to travel throughout our circulatory system. Ø Will monitor activity of brain by traveling into the spine and brain Ø They will provide an interface with computer. 14
Ø Nanobots could also carefully scan the structure of our brain, providing a complete readout of the connection. Ø This information, when entered into a computer, could then continue to function as us. Ø Thus the data stored in the entire brain will be uploaded into the computer. 15
UTILISATION OF BLUE BRAIN 16
A very good example of utilization of blue brain is the case "short term memory". In some movies we might have noticed that a person might be having short term memories. 17
An another situation is that when a person gets older, then he starts forgetting or takes a bit more time to recognize to a person. For the above reason we need a blue brain. It is a simple chip that can be installed into the human brain for which the short term memory and volatile memory at the old age can be avoided 18
BLUEBRAIN PROJECT OBJECTIVES Ø The project will search for insights into how human beings think and remember. Ø Scientists think that blue brain could also help to cure the Parkinson's disease. Ø The brain circuitry is in a complex state of flux, the brain rewiring itself every moment of its existence. If the scientists can crack open the secret of how and why the brain does it, the knowledge could lead to new breed of supercomputers. 19
CURRENT RESEARCH 20
The IBM’s Blue Brain at Lausanne Switzerland Ø IBM, in partnership with scientists at Switzerland’s Ecole Polytechnique Federal De Lausanne’s(EPFL) Brain and Mind Institute will begin simulating the brain’s biological systems. 21
HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE REQUIRMENT 22
Ø A Super computer. Ø Memory with a very large storing capacity. Ø Processor with a very high processing power. Ø A very wide network. Ø A program to convert the electric impulses from the brain to input signal, which is to be received by the computer and vice versa. Ø very powerful Nanobots to act as the interface between the natural brain and the computer. 23
ADVANTAGES Ø We can remember things without any effort. Ø Decision can be made without the presence of a person. Ø Even after the death of a man his intelligence can be used. Ø Improvements in processing speed and memory could make entire human brain simulated. Ø The activity of different animals can be understood. Ø Help deaf and mad people 24
DISADVANTAGES Ø We become dependent upon the computer systems. Ø Others may use technical knowledge against us. Ø Computer viruses will pose an increasingly critical threat. Ø Possibilities of human cloning. Ø If in future surrogates to humans are developed then, there will be no human interaction and the world will run on computers only. 25
CLOSING THOUGHTS Ø Very soon this technology will be highly accepted whole over the world but wisdom lies in right use. Ø “Technology does not create Brain but Brain creates Technology” Ø We will be able to transfer ourselves into computers at some point & this is just the beginning……. . ! 26
