Packed Cell Volume (PCV ) The PCV test is used to measure the amount of cells in the blood; blood is made up of cells and plasma. The amount of cells in the blood is expressed as a percentage of the total volume of blood; for example, a PCV measurement of 50% means that there are 50 millilitres of cells per 100 millilitres of blood.
Packed Cell Volume (PCV )
(PCV) Range : Normal (PCV) Low (PCV) High (PCV) Male 40 -52% < 40% > 52% Female 35 -47% < 35% > 47%
Causes of Abnormal (PCV) Causes of low PCV : Anemia Vitamin or mineral deficiencies, Liver cirrhosis Bleeding episodes. Causes of high PVC : Dehydration

Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV) Mean corpuscular volume (MCV) is the average volume of red cells in a specimen. To calculate the MCV, expressed in femtoliters (fl, or 10 -15 L), the following formula is used:
(MCV) Range : Normal (MCV) Low (MCV) Male 80 -100 Female 80 -96 < 80 High (MCV) > 100 > 96
Causes of Abnormal (MCV) Cases of high MCV : liver disease e. g. Cirrhosis. Hypothyroidism. Causes of low MCV : lead poisoning. Long-lasting kidney failure

Red Blood Cell Count A red blood cell count is a blood test that doctor uses to find out how many red blood cells (RBCs) body have . It’s also known as an erythrocyte count.
RBC Count Range : Normal RBC Count Male 4. 7 to 6. 1 Low RBC Count High RBC Count < 4. 7 > 6. 1 million cells per microliter (mc. L). Female 4. 2 to 5. 4 < 4. 2 > 5. 4 million cells per microliter (mc. L).
Causes of Abnormal RBC Count Cases of high RBC count : Cigarette smoking Congenital heart disease Dehydration Causes of low RBC count : Anemia Bone marrow failure Erythropoietin deficiency, Leukemia

Hemoglobin (HB) A hemoglobin test measures the amount of hemoglobin in blood. Hemoglobin is a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen to body's organs and tissues and transports carbon dioxide from your organs and tissues back to lungs.
(HB) Range : Normal (HB) Low (HB) High (HB) Male 13. 5 -17. 5 < 13. 5 > 17. 5 Female 12 -15. 5 < 12 > 15. 5
Causes of Abnormal (HB) Cases of high HB : Lung disease Dehydration Living at a high altitude Heavy smoking Burns Causes of low HB: Iron deficiency Vitamin B-12 deficiency Folate deficiency Bleeding

Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin (MCH) The mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), or "mean cell hemoglobin" (MCH), is the average mass of hemoglobin per red blood cell in a sample of blood. MCH calculation :
(MCH) Range : Normal (MCH) Low (MCH) Male 27 -32 Femal e 27 -32 < 27 High (MCH) > 32
Causes of Abnormal (MCH) Cases of high MCH : deficiency of B vitamins Causes of low MCH: Iron deficiency anemia

Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration (MCHC) The Mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, a measure of the concentration of hemoglobin in a given volume of packed red blood cells. MCHC calculation :
(MCHC) Range : Normal (MCHC) Male 285 -330 Femal e 285 -330 Low (MCHC) High (MCHC) < 285 > 330
Causes of (MCHC) Cases of high MCHC : Deficiency of Vitamin B 12 Deficiency of folic acid Causes of low MCHC : Iron Deficiency Anemia Pernicious Anemia Hemolytic Anemia Aplastic Anemia
