Why blood donation is important • Blood Donation, is important, because it allows for the community to give back in times of need. • An example is the hurricane that is currently happening in society today.
Types of blood • There a total of four blood types. • • A B AB O • Along with this, the blood can also be negative and positive depending on the genetics of the individual
Who can do it? Male Female • Be healthy and feeling well • Be at least 17 years old in most states • Be at least 5'1" • Be at least 5'5" • Weigh at least 130 lbs. • Weigh at least 150 lbs.
Reasons not to Donate • If you have flu or cold like symptoms • Are or have been pregnant in the last six weeks • Have used a needle to inject drugs that have not been prescribed to you • Are at risk for exposure to HIV
1 2 Get a goodnight’s sleep Drink an extra 16 oz of water before donation 3 Eat a healthy meal before donating • Avoid fatty foods, such as hamburgers, fries, and ice cream Days before Donation
1 Wear clothing with sleeves that can be pushed above the elbow 3 2 Relax during the donation process, by listening to music, reading, or even talking to the person donating next to you Tell the nurse who is preparing you for donation if you have an arm that you prefer or if you know if a good vein in your arm. 01 02 03 Drink an extra four glasses of water and avoid any alcoholic beverages Keep the bandage on for several hours after donation Do not participate in any heavy lifting or rigorous activity for the remainder of the day After Donation
