Objective of the study • In Ti-6 Al-4 V thermomechanical processing influences the grain size and phase compositions (ratio of α phase to β phase). • Our objective is to investigate the effect of the microstructure on the irradiation damage in Ti-6 Al-4 V. • 4 different thermo-processing methods: ØPowder metallurgy (PM) rolled ØDirect Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS): • As received ( DMLS- As received ) • Heat treatment 1 ( DMLS- HT 1): T=850 C • Heat treatment 2( DMLS- HT 2) : T=1020 C Influence of irradiation on tensile properties and ductility of neutron irradiated Ti-6 Al-4 V processed through forgings and stampings Rodchenkov, B. Irradiation at BLIP • Objective: High dose. Based on the preliminary MARS estimation by Fermi. Lab ~ 3. 5 dpa. • The desired temperature is the lowest possible. • We need beam parameters to estimate the temperature. Can we also have the boundary conditions for the system (water cooling. . )? • We are considering the possibility to run w/o capsule. • All samples will be mechanically polished to achieve good surface for microscopy. What is tolerance for thickness uniformity across samples? 4
PIE • We have applied for funding through ATR NSUF • Max 50 k $ (~ 4 samples) • The PIE lab would be PNNL • If ATR NSUF proposal is rejected, we are looking for other options. Possible funding through Radiate ? Analysis Test Comments Mechanical property Tensile test The samples would be polished in advance Micro-structure SEM The samples would be polished in advance Nano-structure TEM Can we prepare the TEM samples in advance? If yes were there previous experiments with TEM sample in the capsule? Thermal properties Conductivity Not a priority 5
