Div is the promotion of theory-driven experiments and synthesis and data-driven theory in biodiversity sciences. s. Div will fund workshops and working groups, as well as host short-term Post. Docs and Sabbaticals in order to • foster biodiversity synthesis and theory in a data-rich world, The four overarching questions are: • produce high impact and relevant outcomes, How can we detect and quantify biodiversity (“detection”)? • integrate the national and international scientific community, How does biodiversity emerge (“emergence”)? • promote young scientists, and What are the consequences of biodiversity for the functioning of ecosystems (“consequences”)? How can we safeguard biodiversity (“conservation”)? Sabbaticals • Budget: 100 k€ p. a. for travel expenses, accomodation and salary compensation • local support and ideal working conditions • access to all i. Div facilities Postdoctoral fellowships • Four Post. Docs per year • Short term (up to 12 month) • Conduct synthesis projects in a stimulating and supportive international environment • Can be associated with workshops • form a network with other centers, e. g. closely collaborate with other synthesis centers via joint programs, student exchange, and expert databases. Workshops/ Working groups • Budget: 12, 50020, 000€ per meeting • Support includes taking care of all arrangements • Few days – two weeks • Series of workshops possible (working group) www. idiv. de i.
