BLESSING BEFORE THE TORAH STUDY Blessed are you
BLESSING BEFORE THE TORAH STUDY Blessed are you, YHVH our God, King of the Universe, Who sanctified us with his commandments and commanded us to engross ourselves in the words of the Torah. HEBREW TRANSLITERATION: BA’RUCH ATAH YHVH ELOHENU MELECH HA-OLAM ASHER KIDSHANU B’MITZVOTAV VETZIVANU LA’ASOK B’DIVREI TORAH.
PLEASE YHVH, MAKE THE TORAH’S WORDS SWEET IN MY MOUTH AND IN THE MOUTH OF ALL YOUR PEOPLE THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL. MAY WE YOUR CHILDREN, ALL OF ISRAEL, KNOW YOUR NAME, AND THE NAME OF YOUR MESSIAH, YESHUA, AND MAY WE STUDY YOUR TORAH SIMPLY BECAUSE IT IS GOOD. BLESSED ARE YOU YHVH, WHO GAVE US THE TORAH OF TRUTH.
Genesis 32: 28 -31 (CJB) 28 (27) The man asked, “What is your name? ” and he answered, “Ya‘akov. ” 29 (28) Then the man said, “From now on, you will no longer be called Ya‘akov, but Isra’el; because you have shown your strength to both God and men and have prevailed. ” 30 (29) Ya‘akov asked him, “Please tell me your name. ” But he answered, “Why are you asking about my name? ” and blessed him there. (iii) 31 (30) Ya‘akov called the place P’ni-El [face of God], “Because I have seen God face to face, yet my life is spared. ”

Torah Portion Va. Yishlach (And he sent) The Call to Holiness “Go and Sin No More” Lesson 6 Gen. 32: 3 -36: 43 12/14/2019
1 Peter 1: 16 (CJB) 16 since the Tanakh says, “You are to be holy because I am holy. ” Romans 8: 29 (CJB) 29 because those whom he knew in advance, he also determined in advance would be conformed to the pattern of his Son, so that he might be the firstborn among many brothers;
Psalm 15 (CJB) (1) Adonai, who can rest in your tent? Who can live on your holy mountain? 2 Those who live a blameless life, who behave uprightly, who speak truth from their hearts 3 and keep their tongues from slander; who never do harm to others or seek to discredit neighbors; 4 who look with scorn on the vile, but honor those who fear Adonai; who hold to an oath, no matter the cost; 5 who refuse usury when they lend money and refuse a bribe to damage the innocent. Those who do these things never will be moved.
John 8: 1 -6 (CJB) 8 But Yeshua went to the Mount of Olives. 2 At daybreak, he appeared again in the Temple Court, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. 3 The Torah-teachers and the P’rushim brought in a woman who had been caught committing adultery and made her stand in the center of the group. 4 Then they said to him, “Rabbi, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery. 5 Now in our Torah, Moshe commanded that such a woman be stoned to death. What do you say about it? ” 6 They said this to trap him, so that they might have ground for bringing charges against him; but Yeshua bent down and began writing in the dust with his finger.
John 8: 6 -8 (CJB) 6 They said this to trap him, so that they might have ground for bringing charges against him; but Yeshua bent down and began writing in the dust with his finger. 7 When they kept questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “The one of you who is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her. ” 8 Then he bent down and wrote in the dust again.
John 8: 9 (CJB) 9 On hearing this, they began to leave, one by one, the older ones first, until he was left alone, with the woman still there. They were smitten in conscience, wanting to condemn this lady for her sin while they themselves were sinners.
John 8: 10 -11 (CJB) 10 Standing up, Yeshua said to her, “Where are they? Has no one condemned you? ” 11 She said, “No one, sir. ” Yeshua said, “Neither do I condemn you. Now go, and don’t sin any more. ” She is standing guilty before YHVH, and YET she is NOT condemned!
James 2: 13 (CJB) 13 For judgment will be without mercy toward one who doesn’t show mercy; but mercy wins out over judgment.
John 8: 11 (CJB) 11 She said, “No one, sir. ” Yeshua said, “Neither do I condemn you. Now go, and don’t sin any more. ” “Leave your adulterous ways behind and live in purity the rest of your days. I forgive your disobedience, but from here on you must be obedient. The time for sinning is over !”
YHVH’s mercy comes with a mandate! His compassion is coupled with a stern command.
John 5: 1 -13 (CJB) 5 After this, there was a Judean festival; and Yeshua went up to Yerushalayim. 2 In Yerushalayim, by the Sheep Gate, is a pool called in Aramaic, Beit-Zata, 3 in which lay a crowd of invalids — blind, lame, crippled. 4 [a] 5 One man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years. 6 Yeshua, seeing this man and knowing that he had been there a long time, said to him, “Do you want to be healed? ” 7 The sick man answered, “I have no one to put me in the pool when the water is disturbed; and while I’m trying to get there, someone goes in ahead of me. ” 8 Yeshua said to him, “Get up, pick up your mat and walk!” 9 Immediately the man was healed, and he picked up his mat and walked. Now that day was Shabbat, 10 so the Judeans said to the man who had been healed, “It’s Shabbat! It’s against Torah for you to carry your mat!” 11 But he answered them, “The man who healed me — he’s the one who told me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk. ’” 12 They asked him, “Who is the man who told you to pick it up and walk? ” 13 But the man who had been healed didn’t know who it was, because Yeshua had slipped away into the crowd.
John 5: 14 (CJB) 14 Afterwards Yeshua found him in the Temple court and said to him, “See, you are well! Now stop sinning, or something worse may happen to you!”
Charles Spurgeon said, “Yeshua will not walk with His people unless they drive out every known sin. ”
We love Yeshua and we want to know two things: 1. How high are YHVH’s standards? What does He require? 2. How can I attain to those standards?
2 Peter 2: 14 (CJB) 14 for they have eyes always on the lookout for a woman who will commit adultery, eyes that never stop sinning; and they have a heart that has exercised itself in greed; so that they seduce unstable people. What a cursed brood! Psalm 78: 32 (CJB) 32 Still, they kept on sinning and put no faith in his wonders.
Exodus 20: 17 (CJB) 17 (20) Moshe answered the people, “Don’t be afraid, because God has come only to test you and make you fear him, so that you won’t commit sins. ” Purpose of YHVH’s holy fear is to keep us from committing sin!
Romans 5: 20 (CJB) 20 And the Torah came into the picture so that the offense would proliferate; but where sin proliferated, grace proliferated even more. Romans 6: 1 -2 (CJB) 6 So then, are we to say, “Let’s keep on sinning, so that there can be more grace”? 2 Heaven forbid! How can we, who have died to sin, still live in it? Gospel Message: Yeshua came to save us from our sins, not in our sins!
John 1: 29 (CJB) 29 The next day, Yochanan saw Yeshua coming toward him and said, “Look! God’s lamb! The one who is taking away the sin of the world! Galatians 1: 4 (CJB) 4 who gave himself for our sins, so that he might deliver us from the present evil world-system, in obedience to the will of God, our Father. 1 Peter 1: 14 -18 (CJB) 14 As people who obey God, do not let yourselves be shaped by the evil desires you used to have when you were still ignorant. 15 On the contrary, following the Holy One who called you, become holy yourselves in your entire way of life; 16 since the Tanakh says, “You are to be holy because I am holy. ”[a] 17 Also, if you are addressing as Father the one who judges impartially according to each person’s actions, you should live out your temporary stay on earth in fear. 18 You should be aware that the ransom paid to free you from the worthless way of life which your fathers passed on to you did not consist of anything perishable like silver or gold;
Yeshua’s Blood not only cleanses us from sin but it frees us from sin as well!
Being born again signals a definite break with a lifestyle dominated by sin! Romans 8: 13 (CJB) 13 For if you live according to your old nature, you will certainly die; but if, by the Spirit, you keep putting to death the practices of the body, you will live.
The Word is calling us to declare WAR on sin in our lives. . . TRUCE is not an option!
1 Corinthians 15: 33 -34 (CJB) 33 Don’t be fooled. “Bad company ruins good character. ” 34 Come to your senses! Live righteously and stop sinning! There are some people who lack knowledge of God — I say this to your shame. Hebrews 10: 26 -27 (CJB) 26 For if we deliberately continue to sin after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but only the terrifying prospect of Judgment, of raging fire that will consume the enemies. [a]
Luke 6: 46 (CJB) 46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord!’ but not do what I say? Matthew 7: 21 -23 (CJB) 21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, only those who do what my Father in heaven wants. 22 On that Day, many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord! Didn’t we prophesy in your name? Didn’t we expel demons in your name? Didn’t we perform many miracles in your name? ’ 23 Then I will tell them to their faces, ‘I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness!’[a]
1 John 3: 6 -10 (CJB) 6 So no one who remains united with him continues sinning; everyone who does continue sinning has neither seen him nor known him. 8 The person who keeps on sinning is from the Adversary, because from the very beginning the Adversary has kept on sinning. It was for this very reason that the Son of God appeared, to destroy these doings of the Adversary. 9 No one who has God as his Father keeps on sinning, because the seed planted by God remains in him. That is, he cannot continue sinning, because he has God as his Father. 10 Here is how one can distinguish clearly between God’s children and those of the Adversary: everyone who does not continue doing what is right is not from God. Likewise, anyone who fails to keep loving his brother is not from God. I John 1: 8 -2: 2 Thank YHVH, there is provision for our sin. . . before we are saved and after we are saved!
John’s emphasis was on growing, not on falling short!
We are to live radically differently from unbelievers! The former live in light; the latter live in darkness! The former walk in the truth; the latter walk in lies! The righteous do what is right! The righteous is full of love! The righteous overcome the wicked one! Unrighteous do what is wrong! They are children of the devil! They are full of hate! They are under the power of the evil one!
1 John 2: 3 -6 (CJB) 3 The way we can be sure we know him is if we are obeying his commands. 4 Anyone who says, “I know him, ” but isn’t obeying his commands is a liar — the truth is not in him. 5 But if someone keeps doing what he says, then truly love for God has been brought to its goal in him. This is how we are sure that we are united with him. 6 A person who claims to be continuing in union with him ought to conduct his life the way he did. John is not telling us how we can live like this, but he is telling us that this is how we are to live!
He is reinforcing standards that YHVH had already laid out in Scriptures!
Isaiah 1: 16 -17 (CJB) 16 “Wash yourselves clean! Get your evil deeds out of my sight! Stop doing evil, 17 learn to do good! Seek justice, relieve the oppressed, defend orphans, plead for the widow. Psalm 24: 3 (CJB) 3 Who may go up to the mountain of Adonai? Who can stand in his holy place? Psalm 24: 4 (CJB) 4 Those with clean hands and pure hearts, who don’t make vanities the purpose of their lives or swear oaths just to deceive.
2 Kings 17: 13 (CJB) 13 Adonai had warned Isra’el and Y’hudah in advance through every prophet and seer, “Turn from your evil ways; and obey my mitzvot and regulations, in accordance with the entire Torah which I ordered your ancestors to keep and which I sent to you through my servants the prophets. ”
Romans 8: 1 -4 (CJB) 8 Therefore, there is no longer any condemnation awaiting those who are in union with the Messiah Yeshua. 2 Why? Because the Torah of the Spirit, which produces this life in union with Messiah Yeshua, has set me free from the “Torah” of sin and death. 3 For what the Torah could not do by itself, because it lacked the power to make the old nature cooperate, God did by sending his own Son as a human being with a nature like our own sinful one [but without sin]. God did this in order to deal with sin, and in so doing he executed the punishment against sin in human nature, 4 so that the just requirement of the Torah might be fulfilled in us who do not run our lives according to what our old nature wants but according to what the Spirit wants. Romans 6: 12 -14 (CJB) 12 Therefore, do not let sin rule in your mortal bodies, so that it makes you obey its desires; 13 and do not offer any part of yourselves to sin as an instrument for wickedness. On the contrary, offer yourselves to God as people alive from the dead, and your various parts to God as instruments for righteousness. 14 For sin will not have authority over you; because you are not under legalism but under grace.
Hebrews 8: 10 (CJB) 10 “‘For this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Isra’el after those days, ’ says Adonai: ‘I will put my Torah in their minds and write it on their hearts; I will be their God, and they will be my people. Hebrews 10: 16 (CJB) 16 “ ‘This is the covenant which I will make with them after those days, ’ says Adonai: ‘I will put my Torah on their hearts, and write it on their minds. . . , ’ ” Ezekiel 36: 26 -27 (CJB) 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit inside you; I will take the stony heart out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put my Spirit inside you and cause you to live by my laws, respect my rulings and obey them.
Holiness is not an option. . . we are called to live holy lives and that means it is a divine requirement! Anything else is disobedience!
Hebrews 12: 14 -15 (CJB) 14 Keep pursuing shalom with everyone and the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. 15 See to it that no one misses out on God’s grace, that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble and thus contaminates many, Our lives depend on it!
The question again is: How do we do it?
Response: (The Priestly Blessing) MAY YHVH GRANT ALL THE DESIRES OF OUR HEARTS. FULFILL ALL OUR PURPOSES AND ALL OUR PETITIONS MAY YHVH HEAR FROM HEAVEN, QUICKLY ANSWER ALL OUR REQUESTS, AND SAVE US IN THE DAY OF ADVERSITY. IN THE NAME OF YAHSHUA, THE MESSIAH, DEFEND US FROM OUR ENEMIES, FROM POVERTY AND FROM BONDAGE. SHABBAT SHALOM
