What is expected… Portfolio presentations to advance to next grade: 9 th - 12 th = Levels 1 -4. Level 1: 9 th grade: “Intro to Careers”: Career exploration through: ● ● ● “The Career Game” and other online resources (have links); print summary Interest inventories, ‘who am I’ surveys? *Will email all forms Career Fairs held at school (4/year) plus any offered career-related field trips
Level 2 Portfolio - 10 th grade - Intro to ‘ 5 Essential Skills’ Show progress towards these skills…. . See handout *Job Shadows may also be coordinated for those students that have done ample research on their career interest and are endorsed by their adviser to coordinate an appointment with the Career Adviser. (*See Job Shadow email/call logs; Reflection Sheets) *A database from A to Z has been created of local businesses in the area that may entertain job shadows, internships, service learning projects, volunteering, etc… *At minimum, students should volunteer 20 hours during 10 th/11 th grade
Level 3 Portfolio - 11 th grade - “Master” Skills ● ● Master “ 5 External Learning Skills” with evidence Internship possible to those students who show enthusiasm and are endorsed by their adviser- others should volunteer extensively (20 hours) ● 20 hour Service Learning Project - MANDATORY (*Host Site Supervisor Manual with letter from School, Accountability Log, Memorandum of Agreement (Contract); Service Learning Forms)
Level 4 Portfolio - 12 th grade Senior “Capstone” Project: ● ● ● 100 hour project - similar to 80 hour requirement Comprised of a research paper, 20+ hours of community service, research, interviews, outside coaches All-school year project Outside connections Senior Seminar class *Topics include: Domestic Violence; Homelessness, Mental Health in Vets, etc. . .

Rhonda Hanaway, Career Adviser rhanaway@blackstoneacademy. org *At BACS, a career adviser speaks with each grade level and helps facilitate career experiences and exploration through what has been shown in this presentation. Facilitating any Army, National Guard, Marines, Summer Opportunities, Volunteering, and any Community Connections requests are also included. On field trips, I often drive the van to the event site with the students. We wear many hats in our school, but that is what makes it so special.
