BLACKOUT POETRY Creative Writing Project 3 What are
BLACKOUT POETRY Creative Writing Project #3
What are Blackout Poems? • Poems, sentences, or phrases created from the words of a newspaper or a novel.
How do I create one? • Start with a piece of text. It could be from a book, newspaper, magazine, or whatever you can find. • Circle (in pencil) words you think you MIGHT like to use in your poem.
Then what? • Write your circled words IN ORDER on another sheet of paper. • Can you put together a story? An interesting sentence? Add or delete words until you can make it happen.
Then what? • Circle/keep the words you KNOW you want to use in your poem.
Now the fun part… • Black out everything else!
