ASKING FOR DIRECTIONS Excuse me, I’m lost I’m sorry • • • • Where is the nearest park? How can I get to the local market? How do I get to the office? What’s the best way to get to your office next? Is this the way to hospital? How do I get there? Where is the store? Which way are the restrooms? Is there a restaurant close by? Where is your house? How far is it? Can you direct me to the manager office? What’s the best way to get to your office next? Can you tell me where the Bank is?

GIVING DIRECTIONS • • • Hospital is south of Bank Walk straight on until you come to the last door It is on the first/second floor Take third turning on the right Make a left/right turn Go upstairs/downstairs Walk up to the fourth floor It is a long way from here Take the U turn • • • Go straight on till you see the hospital then turn left. Turn left when you see a roundabout. Turn right at the end of the road and my house is number 67. Cross the junction and keep going for about 1 mile. Take third road on the right and you will see the office on the right

Continue. . • • • Take the second road on the left and you will see the house on the left Take the second road on the left and you will see the hospital straight ahead The factory is in between the chemist and canteen. At the end of the road you will see a big building. Out of the hotel, turn sight Go along the street Follow the street until you come to the traffic light/an intersection/ a crossroads/a junction Take the second left/right (turn)

There are some prepositions that show direction • It is next to the security • It is across from the rest room • It is between the mosque and the bank • It is in front of the post office • It is behind the secretary room • Go past the market • It is on the ground floor • It is in the third floor

Let’s Practice 1: Using map! A: Can you tell me where the warehouse? (from main entrance) B: Oh, of course. You go straight on the street until you see the junction, then you turn right on the Street. Firstly, you will see reception or security until you see visitors car park, you must park your car there. Then you can walk to the street and turn left. The warehouse is the second building of the left on the street. And it is opposite the factory B A: Ok, thank you very much B: Nice to help you

Exercise 1: Direction: Look at that map of the different parts of a company. Where are you if you follow the instructions below (see figure 2)? 1. It is between the Kent Building and Factory C, and opposite the warehouse. 2. It is just behind the visitors’ car park, near the gymnasium and social club. 3. It is next to the first staff car park, just above the Sales department. It is on the second floor
