BIOTIC ECOLOGICAL FACTORS

FACTORS Development (what kind? ) Structure (which one? ) Number of factors Spacial layout (where? )

POPULATION All the organisms of the same group or species, which live in a particular geographical area, and have the capability of interbreeding. Unlitmed increase of the population Limited growth of population

ENVIRONMENT CAPACITY Competitive relationships Space and food

BIOTIC POTENCIAL Growth population factor Plants, insects, bacterias Deer, elephants, whales

POPULATION DENSITY Depends on: 1. birth rate 2. death rate 3. reproduction potencial 4. survival rate 5. the spreading of the population

ARRANGEMENT Random Uniform (even) In a group (clumped)

PREDATOR Type of organism that feeds on another type of organism – prey Natural selection adaptations Body structure the sense of sight, hearing, smell Sharp teeth, a curved beak, claws Herbivores – certain adaptations to escape the predators

MIMICRY “Hiding” The praying mantis Some butterflies

INTERESTING ADAPTATIONS Some animals warn predators not to eat them because they don’t taste good or they are poisonous Bright colors, produce sounds to confuse them Grasshopper – chemical defense mechanism

COMPETITION Relathionship between 2 or more species which are limited by the same factor Lions and hyenas a zebra Plants amount of solar energy - prevent the develepment of other plants by releasing toxins into the ground

SYMBIOSIS Types: 1. parasitism 2. mutualism 3. commensalism

PARASITSM a relationship between species, where one organism, the parasite, lives on or in another organism, the host, causing it some harm

MUTUALISM Both species in the community benefit from it and do not harm each other

COMMENSALISM In which one species benfits and the other doesn’t benefit or harm the others species

PARASITES Internal parasites – fluke and tapeworms – live and develop in the body of the host External parasites – tapeworm – to survive they don’t have to kill their host Plant parasiets – mistletoe – drains the water from the trees it grows on
