What Are We Doing It all began with an EP catheter …

EP Overview Typical EP procedure consists of: Inserting catheter Reaching the heart

EP Overview And … Navigating inside the heart

However … The main (and only) instrument for knowing what’s going on inside the heart is fluoro.

However … In addition to emitting harmful radiation, it produces images that are hard to interpret

However … Especially when the heart is beating

Location Technology We place a number of transmitters under the patient table …

Location Technology … and a receiver in the catheter tip …

Location Technology … and triangulate our position!

Mapping Now we know the location of the catheter tip with respect to the table. So what? X = 11. 34 Y = 533. 89 Z = 45. 78

Mapping We can map the heart from the inside and find the location of the catheter tip with respect to the map.

Mapping The map is also very useful in displaying electrical activity of the heart.

Mapping Still there is one problem left: heartbeat. We can either synchronize with ECG …

Mapping … or try to build a dynamic model of the heart
