Social Media Animal Storm • You may have seen on Social Media lots of new apps/sites trending in relation to the animal kingdom. • Us biologists in the department are thrilled as we love to see students getting in touch with their inner animal!! • So, we have compiled a few fun things to engage you if you haven’t had the chance to already.
1) Take a picture with an animal Discoverers - On your phone go to Google - Type in an animals name i. e Lion - Scroll down and you will see the image search and description with a box that says ‘Meet a life-sized Lion’ or ‘View in 3 D’. - It will link to the camera on your phone if you continue to follow instructions and it will appear in your space. - Strike a pose with your animal. 2) Take the zoo to your home! • Earth Hour is the moment millions come together for nature, people and the planet. • This years Earth hour was planned for 8. 30 pm on Saturday 28 March. Iconic landmarks, millions of homes, businesses, entire neighborhoods and political leaders across the world planned to switch off their lights and raise their voices to help protect the planet against the effects of climate change. • In light of recent circumstances, showing support could still be done for: 1 hour, shutting down non-essential appliances, turning off mobiles, watching a live stream, sharing stories etc. • Have a browse on your phone/laptop about what Earth hour is. Create 1 of the following Earth Hour lanterns. Earth in the news Pioneers Australian forest fires, flooding in the UK, Storm Dennis, Hurricanes and Earthquakes to name a few, are seen as the result of climate change and is continuously hitting the headlines. TASK: Video yourself or get someone to film you, as a BBC news reporter on a recent natural disaster. Include: -location and what happened -The impact of the natural disaster- wildlife, people, homes, jobs, hygiene - Research-green house effect and climate change. How and why is it contributing towards these disasters? - Ideas as to what we could all be doing to reduce the effect. - Who is Greta Thunberg and why is she trending?
