Nine Characteristics of Living Things 1. All living things are made up of one or more cells. Life of a living things starts from one cell which keeps on growing, splitting and transforming. 2. All living things take substances from their environment to obtain energy, to grow, to survive and to stay healthy. 3. With the help of the energy obtained from the environment, living things grow in size. 4. All living things have internal movement. Living things have the ability to move substances from one part of their body to another. External movements include walking, flying and swimming.
Nine Characteristics of Living Things 5. Everything living reproduces in order to continue their species. 6. Living things react to the environment around them. (light, heat, cold, sound etc. ) 7. All living things exchange gases with the environment through a process known as respiration. 8. Excretion is the process of removing waste from the body. 9. All living things have to die one day. No living thing has an infinite life span.
