Bio. Struct-X challenges • Duplicated proposal procedures is a burden for the users • Match of project and user identities in Bio. Struct. X and facility systems • Collection of facility-relevant proposal parameters necessary? 6 6/12/2021 © EMBL 2011

Roadmap • Enable Umbrella login • Agree on a set of facility-relevant parameters • Offer extraction of relevant proposal information • „private“ goal to create local user accounts automatically 7 6/12/2021 © EMBL 2011

Umbrella@EMBL Hamburg • Communication and acceptance vital • Integrity and confidentiality questions • ? Do we need another user portal? 8 6/12/2021 © EMBL 2011

(addendum) What is a Bio. Struct-X BAG? 9 • BAG stands for “Block Allocation Group”, a form of collective project proposals, established at many synchrotron facilities in Europe, including the ESRF • Bio. Struct-X prefers applications from multiple research groups or consortia (regions, countries), to allow effective application and evaluation procedures. • Single project proposals are excepted. Bio. Struct-X may make suggestions for joining existing consortia. • Each BAG consists of one BAG coordinator, one deputy, and a list of principal investigators, with specific projects associated. • Each BAG may apply for access for one or more platforms at one or more Bio. Struct-X partner facilities 6/12/2021 © EMBL 2011
