ESL Certification Course • Teachers who are not ESL certified should begin to plan to take the spring course. • Middle School English and reading teachers who teach ELs must be certified for ESL. • ELA teachers without certification are first served (Region 11) • All English and reading teachers must be certified and have the students in class in order to apply for the ESL stipend.

TELPAS Spring (TEA) Dates • Jan 10 Assembling and Verifying Gr. 2 -12 Writing Collections course available • Jan 22 Online basic training course s for new and returning 2 -12 raters available (only Writing) • Feb. 12 Calibration window opens for new and returning raters (only Writing) 2 opportunities; monitored setting • Feb. 26/Apr. 6 – TELPAS assessment window (Data verification) • Composite score: 10% Listening (27 points) 10% Speaking (36 points) 30% Writing 50% Reading (37 questions)
TELPAS NEWS • New Tutorials will be released in January 2018 • Listening Items – the text/prompt isn’t available on the screen – click on correct answer, drop and drag, and multiple choice • Speaking Items – Text for prompt is onscreen to read and in an audio file. Students may record up to 2 responses each with a 90 -second duration. Speaking is scored with a 2 or 4 point rubric depending on the item type and complexity. • Clusters differ for Reading vs. Listening and Speaking • Delayed TELPAS Results and LPAC implications
