Neighbourhood Plan Progress Report 9 th October 2019 Regulation 16 consultation has now been carried out by the District Council. This was a 6 week consultation which ran from 29 th July to 9 th September 2019. There were only a few comments made at this consultation which have now been forwarded to the Inspector who will be examining the plan. I am not anticipating these comments to affect the principles of the plan and can be dealt with by minor changes to the plan if necessary. Regulation 17 The Bigbury Neighbourhood Plan has now reached Regulation 17 stage. John Slater has been appointed as the Inspector to examine the plan and hopes to start looking at the plan the week beginning October 14 th 2019. It is not currently expected that attendance at a hearing will be necessary but we have been advised by South Hams District Council that the timeframe for the plan should end in 2034 to be the same as the timeframe for the adopted Joint Local Plan. Mr Slater asked for this to be confirmed which I have now done. Mr Slater lives in Devon and is the Inspector who examined the Thurlestone Neighbourhood Plan. He is therefore already fairly familiar with the area and the general issues affecting a similar coastal rural parish within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Next stages If the Plan is approved by the Inspector, with or without further amendments, it will then go to a referendum where the community will be given an opportunity to vote on whether they would like the Plan to be adopted. Issued: 7 October 2019 Council takes part in national event in its drive to increase customer satisfaction. National Customer Service Week 2019 takes place this week from Monday 7 until Friday 11 October. Throughout the week organisations across the country will be using initiatives to get to know their customers better; celebrating customer service heroes; championing customer service in the boardroom and improving their organisation’s reputation and trust by delivering on their customer promises. South Hams District and West Devon Borough Councils will be kick-starting the week by contacting over 6, 000 customers to find out how satisfied they are with the services they receive. Cllr Nicky Hopwood, Executive Member for Council at South Hams District Council, said: “It is important that as a Council we work hard to continuously improve our relationship with residents. National Customer Service Week gives us a platform to talk about what we are doing to improve our relationships with the people we serve. “It gives us a chance to benchmark our services, and as this is the second year of this exercise, we will be able to track this year’s scores against last year’s. South Hams Council continues with a staff training programme to embed the basic principles of good customer services in everyday working and recognises those officers who are exceptional in this field through our annual staff awards. ” Cllr Jeff Moody, Lead Member for Customer First for West Devon Borough Council, said: “I believe in providing the best possible customer experience for the residents of West Devon and that this should occur at the first point of contact whether that is online, via the telephone call centre or face-to-face. “I am working continually with officers to help staff provide quality council services through the delivery of improved customerfocused staff training and communication, improved online services with the streamlining of our website so residents can quickly, easily and effectively ‘self-serve’ online, and by providing an improved call centre experience for our customers. “I also believe that Councillors play a very important role in good customer service by being visible in their local communities and by being accessible to all residents through regular events like ‘Meet your Councillor’ surgeries and working closely with council staff to continue to improve the level of council service to our customers. ” A spokesperson for the Institute of Customer Service, said: “National Customer Service Week is a week-long opportunity to raise awareness of customer service and the vital role it plays in both successful business practice and the growth of the UK economy. We’re delighted South Hams District Council and West Devon Borough Councils are members of The Institute and are keen to improve their customer service delivery. ” To find out more about National Customer Service Week, visit: https: //www. instituteofcustomerservice. com/events/ncsw Richard Matthews - Clerk, Bigbury Parish Council
