President Bush’s FY 09 Budget § President introduced budget on February 4 § Department of Education funded at $52. 9 billion (essentially level funding) § Budget eliminates 47 education programs and sharply reduces 11 others (a $4 billion cut) § Department of Labor budget cut as well Association for Career and Technical Education 7
FY 09 Budget Resolution § President’s Budget not being seriously considered § House and Senate Budget Committees passed budget resolutions in March § Both assume increases in “Function 500” education, training, and social services programs § House has higher discretionary spending cap Association for Career and Technical Education 8
