Who is Beverly…. . Beverly is a artist and a grandmother to 3 rd grade Anchorage student, Colton Broughton and Kindergartner, Luke Broughton. Beverly lives in Northern Kentucky during the summer months and West Palm Beach during the winter months, both places providing her with different inspirations.
Beverly was born in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky in 1934 and lived with her mother, father and uncle. Her father was a doctor and she would go with him to house visits while he helped those that were sick. To help her block out the unpleasant visits she would draw some of her favorite things. She and her Uncle would look through his car magazines and make sketches, which taught her it wasn’t the subject itself that matters but the joy of drawing the painting that comes through the creative process.
Beverly has written two books: The Art of Beverly Erschell shows examples of her paintings and work from over the past four decades. It tells her life story through her works of art.
Her second book, The Lucky Greyhound tells the story of Beverly’s adopted greyhound, Maple. The story is funny and interesting and the artwork is colorful and whimsical, similar to a greyhounds personality.
Abstract Art Beverly loves creating abstract art. Abstract art is art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of reality but instead use shapes, colors, forms and gestural marks to achieve its effect.
Wassily Kandinsky German Expressionism painter, Wassily Kandinsky is often considered the first true abstract artist. He became known for his color theory and attaching emotions to his colored paintings. What emotions do you feel when looking at this piece?
Trailblazer After Beverly attended St. Stephens all girls college and began trying to sell her artwork she quickly realized it was not easy for a woman to persuade a gallery to accept an art piece. She used her initials B. H. Erschell so people had no clue she was female. At that time only five percent of artists were female, now it has risen closer to 60%!
Current work: Beverly’s work can be found today in many private, corporate and museum collections: Cincinnati Art Museum Dayton Art Museum American Financial Procter & Gamble University of Cincinnati Palm Beach Book Store Beverly is 84 years young and still paints every single day in her art studio within her home-its her passion, her therapy and her love.
