Tonight’s Aim By the end of this information session, you will have an understanding as to: q WHAT Agile Learning Is and HOW it benefits my child/ren q WHAT the new behaviour management process is (including ICT User Policy) q HOW I can stay connected with all school-based communication
What Is Agile Learning?
How Do We Prepare Students For The Future? Through SKILL BUILDING Ø Design thinking Ø Flexibility Ø The 4 Cs – Collaboration, Communication, Creativity & Critical Thinking Ø Anywhere, anytime Ø Entrepreneurs Ø Cultural shift – embrace risk, failure is acceptable and aids in learning process
Behaviour Management A new approach to Thinking Sheets This year we have adapted the thinking sheets. We now have three different sheets to support students in their behavioural choices. It is important to note that these sheets are not a punishment or a negative process. Rather, they are a communication tool between school and home. They let parents know about discussions had with students, and ways that have been developed to support better choices. This forms the basis of Restorative Practices, which is an important part of Bethany’s Behaviour Management plan.
Behaviour Management A new approach to Thinking Sheets As humans, we are all fallible and make mistakes. Having the understanding of righting a wrong and repairing relationships or trust is vital in having an empathetic and caring community. The Red and the Orange sheets sent home have an acknowledgement slip that will let us know that you have seen the sheet and are supportive of the school’s efforts to encourage your child to grow in all areas of their lives.
Behaviour Management Red Reflection Sheet This sheet is used for repeat behaviours, swearing, vandalism, breeches of ICT Policies, or any behaviour where it is deemed necessary by the staff of Bethany Lutheran Primary School to put a STOP to the behaviour. If a student receives three of these sheets in a term, a meeting will be organised involving the student, the Principal or Deputy Principal, as well as a parent/carer, to develop a plan for appropriate behaviour.
Behaviour Management Orange Reflection Sheet This sheet is used for less serious incidents or when it is necessary for children to reflect on choices that weren’t the best. Goals will be set in consultation with them, which will help them make choices that will be beneficial to their continued growth as members of not only of Bethany school, but the wider community as well.
Behaviour Management Green Reflection Sheet There will be times when your child makes a brilliant or wellthought out choice. We also want to acknowledge these positive achievements. These sheets will be given out by teachers to students at Bethany and they will be a communication tool to let you know about the wonderful things your child has done.
User Agreements (ICT) Information Communication Technology (ICT) is an integral part of our society and culture in the 21 st Century. In the early years (Prep – Year 3), learning is enhanced around the effective integration of laptops and i. Pads across all Learning Areas. Each of these rooms have access to laptops and i. Pads. In the upper years (Years 4 -6), learning is enhanced through the use of a 1: 1 i. Pad program within an Agile Learning Framework.
User Agreements (ICT) ICTs are tools for lifelong learning. The use of any ICTs provided by Bethany Lutheran Primary School and the use of the school’s infrastructure (network and wifi) is a privilege and not a right. Bethany takes all reasonable measures to ensure that this network remains in great working order with appropriate web filtering and other restrictions deemed necessary. All staff abide by their duty of care and are always vigilant in reporting of all incidents regarding the access or exposure to controversial and inappropriate materials. At the commencement of each school year, all students undertake age-appropriate lessons in: Internet Safety Cyberbullying Privacy & Security Self-image & Identity Digital Footprint Relationships & Information Literacy Copyright & Creative Communication Skills Commons Bethany believes that students must also take responsibility for ensuring the correct use of ICTs is always upheld and is consistent with the values and mission of our school.
User Agreements (ICT) The user agreement provided to you by your child’s class teacher covers the use of all Information Communication Technology (ICT) provided by Bethany Lutheran Primary School and all ICTs using the school’s infrastructure (network and wifi). ICT equipment is provided to students to complete class work, research and other activities by approval of their class teacher/s. Care must be taken to ensure resources are protected from harm and that no users are exposed to materials considered harmful, offensive or inappropriate in any manner. To have access to Bethany’s ICTs and infrastructure, students must agree to abide by the school’s Acceptable Use Agreement. Breaches to this agreement will follow the procedure outlined in this document. If you have any questions, please contact the e. Learning Coordinator
