HISTORY/PROBLEM WITH BUFFER ZONES
Reasons for Buffer Zone Pictures 1. Candidates do not know where to campaign. I am so confused! Where am I supposed to campaign? Ugh! 2. Precinct officials just set signs where they look good and not in proper locations.
SOLUTION/BEST PRACTICE FOR BUFFER ZONES
What can we do to make it easier to correctly show buffer zones at our polling sites? After a few hours of deliberating, finally…. Got it! Have a picture of the polling site with the buffer zone drawn out.
What do we need? 1. Overhead view of the polling site 2. Buffer zone area drawn 50 feet from entrance to site 3. If a private site, other designated “no campaigning” zones marked 4. GIS maps 5. GIS assistance with the buffer zone areas
What we need to do? ü Mark the entrance to polling site on overhead view of polling sites ü Mark any special designations for private polling sites ü Send marked pictures to GIS ü Have GIS mark the 50 foot buffer zones and other designated areas ü When GIS returns pictures, then proof ü When buffer zone pictures are correct, post them on your website, Polling Place module, and make hard copies for distribution ü Laminate color copies for each polling site location for posting
OUTCOME Public Polling Site One-Stop Site Private Polling Site
Private Polling Site • Designated Areas for campaign signs • Designated area for tents
Public Polling Site • Notice it shows buffer zone down to the parking spaces
One-Stop Polling Site
WHAT WE DO WITH THE BUFFER ZONE PICTURES Put on Polling Place Module Put on the Web Under Candidate information…. Put in the Candidate Campaign Filing Packet Put in the Polling Locations ures Buff e ict ne P o Z r
