Beryl Cook nasceu em Egham, Surrey, Inglaterra, em 10 de setembro de 1926. Beryl mudou-se para Londres em 1943 e tornou-se uma dançarina em uma produção de “The Gypsy Princess”. Em 1946 casou-se com o amigo de infância John e tiveram um filho. Em 1951 mudou-se com a família para Southern Rhodesia, onde começou a pintar. Retornou à Inglaterra em 1963, dedicando-se à pintura, mas sua obra só começou a ser comercializada nos anos 70. Em 1975 fez sua primeira exposição.
Beryl admirava o trabalho do pintor inglês Stanley Spencer e a sua influência é evidente em suas composições e figuras ousadas e volumosas. Biography: Beryl Cook was born in Egham, Surrey, England, on September 10, 1926. Beryl moved to London in 1943 and became a dancer in a production of “The Gypsy Princess”. In 1946 she married her childhood friend John, and they had a son. In 1951 she moved with her family to Southern Rhodesia, where she began to paint. She came back to England in 1963, devoting herself to painting, but her work only has begun to be commercialized in the 70 s. In 1975 she made her first exhibition. Beryl admired the work of the English painter Stanley Spencer and his influence is evident in her compositions and bold and bulky figures. Her characters are always having fun, they are extravagant and extroverted, creating a contrast with her shy and private personality. Beryl was a social observer and had an almost photographic memory. The artist traveled extensively through Buenos Aires, New York, Havana, Paris and Barcelona, collecting material for her work.
