Berlin Airlift • Who: The Soviet Union vs. The Allied Powers (Specifically the USA) • What: The Soviets set up a barrier around Berlin to keep the Allies out and keep the Germans in. • When: Shortly after WWII and the division of Germany by the Allied Powers • Where: Germany---Specifically Berlin • Why: Start of the Cold War: Soviets spread communist influence • Results: US airdropped food and supplies to the trapped Berliners, led to the creation of NATO, sparked the Cold War and the eventual full construction of the Berlin Wall
Maji Rebellion • Who: Colonizing Germans and East Africans • What: East Africans rebelling against the Imperial power of Germany • When: 1905 -1908 • Where: Tanzania, East Africa • Why: Natives were being exploited through forced labor and the seizing of resources • Results: Germans crushed rebellion, 200, 000 Africans killed, villages and farms burned down leads to famine, inspires other African groups to rebel against the Imperial powers

Socialism, Marxism, Communism • Socialism: Means of production is owned by the state, no private property, society is greater than the individual, currently Denmark, Sweden, Canada • Marxism: Means owned throughout society, no government, no classes, has never been utilized in its pure form • Communism: Single authoritarian party controlling all aspects of society, Currently China, North Korea, Cuba, Vietnam –ideas spread by the former Soviet Union
Brazil Revolution • Who: Military citizens from small states • What: Revolution that officially ended the Old Republic of Brazilian Rule • When: 1930 • Where: Rio de Janeiro • Why: Corrupt elections split the country, Vargas was supported by the citizens but Prestes won due to corruption, revolts begin • Results: Vargas is placed in power, new constitution created, labor unions and laws created, Brazil enters world trade, inspires other Latin American nations to rebel against corrupt leaders.
French Indochina Conflict • • Who: France, Vietnam When: 1946 -1954 Where: Vietnam Why: Vietnamese led revolution against French controlling powers. France wanted to retain control after struggling in WWII. • Results: China aids Vietnam and France is defeated, 400, 000 causalities, tensions rise between US, Vietnam and Russia eventually leading to the Communist split.
